canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Extant: Season Two Renewal for Halle Berry Drama

by Trevor Kimball, October 9, 2014

EXTANT TV show ratingsThe mysteries will continue on season two of Extant. CBS has renewed the Halle Berry TV show for another season. It’s believed there will be another 13 episodes and they will air next summer.

On Extant, astronaut Molly Woods (Berry) returns to Earth after a year-long solo mission in outer space. Her reunion with her family is thrown into turmoil when it’s learned that she’s pregnant. Others in the cast include Goran Visnjic, Pierce Gagnon, Hiroyuki Sanada, Camryn Manheim, Grace Gummer, and Michael O’Neill.

Though the show’s ratings were underwhelming — especially considering Berry is a feature film star — it’s believed that Extant is being produced under a similar model as Under the Dome. Episodes of that show are profitable before they even air, thanks to deals with Amazon and overseas distributors. CBS execs also supposedly like the prestige of having a TV show with Berry as the lead.

What do you think? Are you glad to hear that Extant has been renewed for a second season? Or, do you think it should have been cancelled instead? How long should this series run?

I really loved this show and am so glad it’s been picked up – I gave a big sigh of relief when I found out because I am so SICK of the shows I love and watch faithfully in their first seasons getting canceled. This show is scary, tense, intense and very, very, suspenseful. What I don’t understand is how in the hell we’re supposed to wait a YEAR for the second season? How is that a normal way to conduct business in the television industry – a YEAR between seasons? I wanna know what happens next……NOW!!!!

Yes !! It’s gratifying to see a well conceived science fiction series be renewed. I’m really looking forward to how the story evolves in the 2nd season. Hopefully it will gain an increased viewership.

That’s great news! Just watched the season finale and it was awesome.

I’m pretty happy to hear that CBS is doing another season.

I also love the way how it’s broadcasted. Beeing amazon prime member makes it easier to watch it than waiting ages to air such a show here in europe!

Was pretty disappointed with the first 3 or 4 shows and stopped watching. Had a few rainy days (we live on a small Island and thank God for i Tunes!!) so gave it another go and thought the last half was way better. I also thought it was wrapped up with the season finale. Interesting to see what they can do in S2, probably not a lot!!

The first season of Extant looked wrapped up, just in case, and I was just a tad underwhelmed with the first episode, that is until the closing credits had Spielberg’s name was at the end, then I had to see how the story developed. Admittedly, the plot development was a … little … S – L – O – W … but got going towards the end. The setup for next season should be pretty interesting, particularly because the “child” may be an adult when we next see him. What has he been doing, and to whom, will he continue… Read more »

I enjoyed the series, but it seemed like a one-off. Especially with the last show, where everything was tied up (WAY too neatly). It seemed as if it was meant to be only one season and the producers were in a hurry to finish it and get outta there. I was really disappointed in the finale!

Really???

I can’t believe Halle Berry said no to Homeland and said yes to that crap. I was very disappointed by Extant and I love Sci-Fi but then again, series usually aired on one of the four big networks are of inferior quality, predictable and badly done. Especially when it’s sci-fi, sci-fi is a genre that is hard to pull off. I can’t believe that a star of Berry’s caliber considered doing this and what’s worse, is considering doing it again. Her acting is pretty good though even though she’s not the greatest actress. Maybe it was just too good for… Read more »

Every actor, regardless of stature should do at least one sci-fi movie. It looks like fun, and gives you credibility with younger viewers, who if they saw any of Halle Berry’s films, it was probably BAPS. Look how being on Person of Interest helped Taraji P. Henson’s last three movies: she was a well known Oscar nominated actress, one of the best in the business, but the show helped to boost her box office sales from a wider audience.

I am surprised. But after reading it is making money anyways, I did not know that at the beginning, I can see why.
The first half of the season was pure garbage with maybe a few good minutes total.
The second half when they started doing the 2 episodes a night got far better.
But then the last episode was kind of iffy all the way.
But better then the first half.

I sincerely hope that when they return next year, they put her in better clothes. She wore some of the ugliest clothing I have seen on tv.
