canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Hidden Palms: CW to Finish Drama Early

by Trevor Kimball, June 13, 2007

Hidden PalmsThe CW has decided to finish the low-rated drama Hidden Palms two weeks earlier than planned. Fortunately for fans, they’ll still get to see all of the filmed episodes — at least that’s the plan right now.

Often compared to The O.C., the drama was conceived by Dawson’s Creek creator Kevin Williamson. Palms was originally scheduled to begin airing in early March but was replaced by Pussycat Dolls Present and postponed until May 30th. The drama debuted to disappointing ratings — fewer than 1.9 million watched. The second episode’s viewership dropped to just over 1.5 million.

For now, the CW still plans to air all eight episodes but, the network will burn them off as quickly as possible. Double episodes will air on both June 20th and 27th and the season finale will air on July 4th, a typically little-watched night of television. (Coincidentally, FOX is airing the final two episodes of their cancelled drama Drive on the same night.)

The network has also decided to drop the drama’s Sunday night encores effective immediately. Reruns of 7th Heaven will move to take Palms’ place at 8pm and double episodes of Reba reruns will fill in at 7pm on Sundays.

Though Hidden Palms has not been cancelled, it’s highly unlikely that the series will return for a second season. Will storylines be left unresolved by the end of the eighth episode? If the ratings fall any further, will the CW finish airing this season? Stay tuned! TV Series Finale home page

The networks are nuts. It TAKES TIME for a series to pick up viewers! This is an interesting, well-done drama with compelling characters – what kind of idiotic investment “strategy” does the CW use, to dump it before it’s even had a chance? They started it IN THE BEGINNING OF THE SUMMER, for crying out frickin’ loud! What do they expect?

I’m disgusted. I’m not watching any more new series until they’ve been on at LEAST a year. I’m sick of getting invested only to get slammed.

I love this show! I can’t believe they are cancelling it. I’ve made it a part of my regular tv scheduling.. and all of my friends love it too. The CW actually had a good show for once.. and now it’s over!! =(

I am also so tired of the CW cancelling shows before they actually see how viewers will react. I loved show “the mountain” and they did the same. I am no longer going to watch the network if they keep doing that.

Excuse Me RC I have a question for you. Did you write the show Hidden Palms cause it seems like you did by the statement you made. If you did congrats I love the OC so of course I love this its pretty much the exact same. But if you didn’t write Hidden Palms what the hell are you talking about?

It is NOT another OC! Try actually watching the damn show, and you might figure that out! None of the characters are similar to the characters on The OC! We haven’t even seen the beach yet. It’s a good show. People (and networks) just need to give new tv shows a chance.

Its such a bummmer that they might not have a second season, my friends and I are head over heels for this show. And sad how it has to end so soon, but kinda of convenient for summer plans, and plus we get to know the juicy secret sooner than planned ! All i know is that they better not cancel it during the next two weeks, or we will ALL flip!
Shame on you for those who dislike a show!

I am so sick and tired of networks (and I use the term loosely with the CW) promoting the hell out of and then cancelling shows after a few episodes. How stupid are they? How many people do they think are going to watch the final 5 episodes when they’ve already essentially told us they’re cancelling it?!?
