Though its viewership has been quite small, Manahattan has been renewed for a second season on WGN America. The period TV show’s first season finale airs this Sunday night.
Set in 1943, Manhattan follows the residents of a secret town of Los Alamos, New Mexico. Hidden away by the federal government, scientists live there with their families while they work to build the world’s first atomic bomb. The cast includes John Benjamin Hickey, Olivia Williams, Alexia Fast, Ashley Zukerman, Rachel Brosnahan, Daniel Stern, Katja Herbers, Christopher Denham, Harry Lloyd, Michael Chernus, Eddie Shin, Daniel London, and Mark Moses.
The 11 episodes that have aired so far have averaged a 0.08 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 420,000 viewers. The cable channel is still very new to producing their own scripted series so likely has low expectations at this point.
What do you think? Do you like the Manhattan TV show? Do you plan to watch season two?
Absolutely the best dramatic TV series on TV, bar none. I missed the first few episodes due to “contempt prior to investigation.” I simply didn’t believe it was going to be as wonderful as it turned out to be. I was immediately hooked when I finally began to watch it. Brilliant, engaging, and absolutely the best dramatic series on TV, not to mention a complete surprise to find it on WGN-America. This series is at least as good as anything on AMCD or FXHD. I can’t wait to watch season 2 and plan to watch season 1 AGAIN when it’s… Read more »
Great show! Great acting with a lot of suspense that has you hanging on the edge of your seat at the end of every episode. I am looking forward to season 2. Bravo WGN.
I am glad the show was renewed. It is an interesting time in history and intriguing. I like the way it is shot to give it an authentic 40’s feeling.
I think the gay thing with Charlie’s wife was stupid and just thrown in there to get ratings or play to the current social conscience. Hope they’ll drop that plot line as it added nothing to the plot at all. Hope they will stick with what actually would have been issues of that day- such as the African American scientist who was overlooked because of racial issues .
A dramatic show about SCIENTISTS is my absolute dream come true, and the plot turns are breathtaking. Beautifully written. Wonderful characters who constantly surprise. Perfect finale. But I want it to go on forever.
Well done, WGN.
How ’bout a lonnnnnnngggerrr season two?
So happy to hear the second season has been approved for Manhattan Project. I am extremely interested in WWII and this show provides the emotional issues that historians/documentaries aren’t able to provide. John Benjamin Hickey is one of my favorite actors. He is so versatile.
I am a member of the 18-49 year old viewer demographic the TV industry covets and I love this series!! It is an intelligent show and one of the very few worth watching. Kudos go to the producers for filming the series, at least partially, in New Mexico, where the real Manhattan Project took place. I recognize the landscape as I grew up in the Texas panhandle and have spent quite a bit of time in New Mexico over the years. The writing, directing, and acting are superb, in particular, the acting by John Benjamin Hickey, who plays Frank Winter,… Read more »
I really like this show! I don’t expect this show to follow history…I actually prefer that it doesn’t to keep things more interesting! Glad to hear it’s renewed. I’ll definitely watch the next season.
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY 60 YEARS I UNDERSTAND THOSE THINGS MY DAD TOLD ME ABOUT AT THE NAVY ELECTRONICS LAB, (NEL) WHERE HE WAS ASSIGNED TO WORK ON RADAR DURING WWII. All the secrecy and security those guys had to deal with was real and in fact dangerous, dad always thought our home was bugged and even searched while the family was out….probably actually was. The show has a real 40’s look and feel in every detail, even some of the cars were what dad drove back then. The way it’s filmed and the story is told keeps… Read more »
LOVE THE SHOW, A THINKING MANS SHOW. AND A GOOD LESSON IN HISTORY.
I love the show … I am 64 and did not know what americans went thru to discover the atomic bomb.
I enjoy the show. Glad to know it has been renewed.
Love the show…WGN…got it right..unlike A&E
Superbly written and compelling to watch. More importantly, it is an important historical period we need to know more about.
I like it. I will certainly follow it to its archive. I like the camera angles and the dialog. The actual following of historical records isn’t number one with me because so much noise has been injected into the historical records to save face. The story is interesting. For a beginning entry into the Cinema style TV series programming , this is satisfying for me and I hope the producers don’t over expect it. Give the writers a raise.
