It looks like there won’t be a fifth season for the Mr. Selfridge TV series. “It’s the last series,” co-star Amanda Abbington reportedly told What’s On TV, “We won’t be doing any more, which will be really sad because it’s been a part of my life for four years.” While ITV hasn’t confirmed or denied Abbington’s statement, last year series creator Andrew Davies said, “It was always conceived of as four series.”
Mr. Selfridge follows flamboyant businessman Harry Selfridge (Jeremy Piven) who decides to build the biggest and finest department store in the world at the “dead end” of Oxford Street in London. In addition to Piven and Abbington, the series stars Frances O’Connor, Katherine Kelly, Gregory Fitoussi, Aisling Loftus, and Trystan Gravelle.
The third season of Mr. Selfridge, which airs on PBS here in the States, is currently airing. The show has already been renewed for a fourth season of 10 episodes. They’re expected to begin airing next year.
What do you think? Do you like the Mr. Selfridge TV series? Do you think it should end after four seasons?
It’s too sad to watch knowing Harry died penniless
I love this period piece. We don’t have enough of these really good shows
Sure wish it would continue for at least another season.
Love the show sad to see it end
Completely love this series……. So enjoyable!!!
I love the show; I also loved The Paradise. The writers could really make the historical fiction more fictional and keep up the show for more seasons. I will miss it.
The first two seasons were most entertaining. The third season has deteriorated into a B Soap. The third is probably the last I shall watch…or ev en bother to watch to conclusion.
It does seem like it’s leading to where he loses all his money.
His life went down hill after his wife died and I believe he died penniless. He lost the company and the new owners pretty much pushed him out the door. It’s a very sad ending for such a fantastic entrepreneur. I have enjoyed this series so much! It made me ache to live in that time, to see all that splendor. It’s one of my favourite time periods in England. Selfridge’s is not the grand, elegant place it was then. It is very modern and pricey. They no longer focus on the customer. It’s very hip and flashy. I prefer… Read more »
There isn’t much else to tell of his story…unless you want to see him fade away. That would be too sad to watch.
Why did you feel the need to spoiler the rest of the show for us? Does it make you feel better knowing more than anyone else? Thanks a lot.
She’s not sharing any that isn’t readily availableon the internet or books published about Harry Selfridge. When the show started, I researched and learned more because I was curious about Selfridge’s.
There was an entire documentary about this on PBS too that came after one of the Selfridge episodes. It’s not like his story is a secret or anything. Spoilers are for fiction-things no one is supposed to KNOW about yet.
Mr. Selfridge has been a wonderful series, graced with the finest acting, beautiful scripts, and amazing sets. One of the few shows that I cannot wait to see, so it never spends any time on my DVR Playlist! Having said all that, continuing production into a fifth season would have been disastrous, for the simple reason that without his beloved Rose, Harry Selfridge went into serious decline. This fact is just beginning to be revealed during Season 4. Harry’s life was marked by extraordinary successes, but also by terrible failures and tragedy. After seeing Harry’s amazing life on the upswing,… Read more »
I really have enjoyed this show so much. The acting is superb. I do hope that they will continue the series I look forward to watching it every week and eagerly await it’s return when the new season begins.
Love this show. Am enjoying this season airing here in the US, so will savor every moment when the final season airs next year. The old saying, “Good things must come to an end, eventually,” certainly applies.
Beautifully produced show. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. Covers the other side ‘Downton Abbey’ England with a flavorful sweep of moral and social challenges. Pity it hasn’t attracted a larger audience. It certainly deserves it!
Love the show.
Just started, think it’s a very interesting show would like to see more!
I really enjoy this show. I’m sorry it’s ending.
Love the show. Certainly hope the powers that be will add at least one more season. t is a wonderful show and we need these powerful period pieces to take us sway to a different life as the world we live in these days can be very frightening at times
If they follow his story farther, it ends up just depressing. It’s better that they end it at this point.
