The little sitcom that caused a lot of controversy last summer has quietly ended its run. NBC has cancelled Outsourced after one season on the air.
Outsourced follows a US sales manager, Todd Dempsey (Ben Rappaport), who’s assigned to supervise his company’s call center in India. The sitcom also stars Anisha Nagarajan, Diedrich Bader, Parvesh Cheena, Pippa Black, Rebecca Hazelwood, Rizwan Manji, and Sacha Dhawan.
The NBC sitcom started out decently and it looked like NBC might have a keeper on its hands. Last September, Outsourced debuted to a 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.49 million viewers. In week two, the demo number fell 22% to a 2.8 rating and 5.85 million viewers but that was still pretty healthy by NBC standards.

Unfortunately, over the course of the season, the ratings just kept dwindling downward. The ratings have gone as low as a 1.4 in the demo with just 2.97 million viewers. Those are horrible numbers for a major network, even NBC.
Outsourced’s season currently averages a 2.1 demo rating and 4.55 million viewers. For NBC, that’s not too bad but the average is only that high because of the early season ratings.
It’s certainly not a shocker than NBC has cancelled Outsourced after just one season. The 22nd and final episode, titled “Rajiv Ties the Bharat, part two,” aired last night.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that there won’t be a second season of Outsourced? Why do you think the TV show didn’t catch on?

I am absolutely sickened to learn that Outsourced was cancelled. I watched what I thought was the season finale, and told my husband I had a bad feeling about the ending…Todd and Asha “hooking up” again, Madhuri finding love, Manmeet getting hurt, but not caring too much. I never missed an episode and watched the re-runs over and over, lmao each episode. I asked at my office last week (10 people) if any watched and 3 replied they did and loved it (1 is Indian). Why they cancelled is beyond me. I think 30 Rock is stupid, Parks and Recreation… Read more »
I didnt expect to like this show, and very unrealistic on how their call centers are etc (the original movie is a bit more realistic on India’s work conditions)…but I really enjoyed it. Very funny and good cast of characters.
I AGREE WIT HEROLOVER ALSO – WHO ARE THE NIELSON FAMILIES ?? I HAVE NEVER MET ONE EITHER ? R THEY FAMILIES ?? OR ARE THEY KIDS THAT ARE 18 YEARS OLD THAT YOU PAY TO WATCH TELEVISION SHOWS
Iloved Outsourced, it was a great show and all of the actors were brilliant.
Bring it back!
i loved the movie and was so happy to see it as a sitcom ! but for only one season – and then you moved it to 1030 pm ???? really – what did you expect – who are you polling ?? no one called me ! everyone i know loves this show — and by the way we don’t fall in your demographics of 18 to 49 – do you think people over 49 dont like sitcoms or watch television – we loved it ! great writing and the humor was quick and sharp -maybe the people in your… Read more »
outsourced was a great show very funny i never missed it it should never have been cancelled thumbs down to nbc
way to go NBC…first you mess up coverage of the olympics, then you screw with conan and now you cancel a very enjoyable show.
cbs, abc, cw, please pick up outsourced!!!
Shudnt have been cancelled at all…
Outsourced was a good series and became a good workplace comedy. Of course the ratings were going to be dismal as the season continued – 1) it aired on NBC; 2) it aired on Thursday night, which is filled with low-rated comedies; and 3) it aired at 10:30 for the last part of the season. I noticed that it’s ratings were often about the same as Community, which is clever, but not funny. Plus, its lead-in was the low-rated 30 Rock, a show that is past its prime. At least I laughed when I watched Outsourced instead of the occasional… Read more »
outsourced is excellent serial. please don’t stop it.. continue with season 2 also it would be great, it will pick up audience surely.. never NBC can go down by having Outsourced moving on…
chances are that without Out sourced, in future , there won’t be NBC channel… it will surely close down….
absolutely agree! This show should not have been cancelled – definitely given more time. The casting was excellent as well. Here goes yet another show we like;not given a chance…..
I’m sick of it. I’m sick of so many great shows only getting 1/2 or 1 season at best while reality garbage fills the airwaves nonstop. I have NO idea where TV execs get their numbers, but I seriously dispute these alleged results over the past 4 years. Boo hiss to you NBC for canceling yet another fun, light-hearted show.
Agree with Lorraine: it should have been given more time . . .
Look at Cougar Town it totally SUCKED but ABC gave it sometime and it found its stride -now I don’t miss it.
VERY SAD right now.
This show was hilarious. I enjoyed it more than Community or Modern Family, which are well done comedies, but I felt so comfortable with the characters on Outsourced. I liked the Indian music and the bits of Indian culture i picked up too. A fun, fun, show. Hardly offensive at all….well I think they took potshots at white Americans as much as the Indians, so I call it even. I find the Metro PCS Indians more degrading. Maybe it got cancelled b/c I watched all the epis on nbc.com. I doubt it. I’m not a Neilsen family. Who is a… Read more »
NBC sucks. They keep cancelling excellent shows with potential just because they won’t catch on right away. Boycott NBC!
