canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Rectify: Season Three for SundanceTV Show

by Trevor Kimball, August 18, 2014

Rectify TV show on Sundance: season 3SundanceTV has renewed their first original drama Rectify for a third season, reports Deadline. The third season will air some time in 2015 and will likely have six episodes (the same number as season one).

The second season of Rectify wraps this Thursday with the 10th and final episode of the season.

Rectify revolves around Daniel Holden (Aden Young) who was convicted and imprisoned as a teenager for the rape and murder of his girlfriend. After nearly 20 years of isolation on death row, DNA evidence helps set him free. He returns as an outsider to his family, community, and the outside world. Co-stars include Abigail Spencer, J. Smith Cameron, Luke Kirby, Clayne Crawford Adelaide Clemens, and Jake Austin Walker.

Here’s the press release:

SundanceTV Renews Critically-Acclaimed Original Scripted Drama “RECTIFY” For Season Three

New York, NY – August 19, 2014 – SundanceTV announced today the renewal of the network’s first wholly owned original scripted series “Rectify” slated to air in 2015. The haunting story of a man released from prison after spending nearly two decades on death row, “Rectify” is created and written by Ray McKinnon (The Accountant, “Deadwood,” “Sons of Anarchy”), and executive produced by Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein, the award-winning producers behind “Breaking Bad.” Season two will finale on August 21st at 9pm EST.

Sarah Barnett, SundanceTV President, stated, “‘Rectify’ has evolved into a show much loved by critics and fans. As SundanceTV’s first scripted series, it’s gratifying to see such distinctive and unusual storytelling embraced with such passion. Ray McKinnon is a true television auteur, and we can’t wait to see where he takes us next.”

“Rectify” tells the story of Daniel Holden (Aden Young) who is released after serving nearly 20 years in complete isolation on death row, as he returns as an outsider to his family, to his community, and to the times. Somehow, he survived the mental and emotional strain of his imprisonment, but now the walls have suddenly come crumbling down and Daniel is set free in a world he no longer understands. He’s an outsider, lost in a once familiar world, struggling to navigate his new found freedom. Combined with two decades of technological and social changes to his small town and the larger world, everything he encounters is a puzzle. Daniel’s unexpected presence not only throws his family into disarray, it ripples out to all the people connected to his case – the prosecutor who rode the notoriety to become a State Senator, the Sheriff who pushed the boundaries of the investigation, and the entire town of Paulie, GA, that blamed him for killing one of their own. Like a deadly spark, Daniel’s release reignites the mystery, the power plays, and the questionable justice that condemned him.

Also starring in “Rectify” alongside Aden Young (Killer Elite, The Tree) as Daniel Holden are Abigail Spencer (Cowboys and Aliens, “Mad Men,” Oz the Great and Powerful), who portrays Amantha Holden, Daniel Holden’s younger sister who believes completely in his innocence and has devoted her entire adult life to securing his release; J. Smith Cameron (“True Blood”, Margaret) who plays Janet Talbot, Daniel’s loving mother, who has been living with the impending death of her son for nineteen years and who long ago had made peace with the loss of her son, giving up on any hope for his release; Luke Kirby (Take this Waltz, “Slings and Arrows”) tackles the role of Jon Stern, Daniel’s lawyer who works for an organization dedicated to exonerating the wrongfully convicted; Clayne Crawford (A Walk to Remember) portrays Ted Talbot, Jr., Daniel’s stepbrother whom he had never previously met; Adelaide Clemens (Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, The Great Gatsby) plays Tawney Talbot, Ted’s kind-hearted wife; and Jake Austin Walker (The Chaperone) plays Daniel’s half brother Jared. “Rectify” is shot on location in Griffin, Georgia, near Atlanta.

OMG !! I just binge watched Seas. 1 and 2 and I said “NOOOOOO” that can’t be it !! I can’t tell you when I have sat mesmorized and totally engulfed since Nip and Tuck and Dexter and Six Feet Under. The story of Daniel is so captivating because it seems so real…the people seem like neighbors, and the creator, McKinnon really knew what he was doing. For those of us with minds that are full of stresses and real life drama, this is like watching a friend that you want to just jump into the TV and help !!… Read more »

I am swept away by this series and it’s characters, especially the character of Daniel Holden. The entire premise captures you. It is the most engrossing, moving, and compelling TV series I have ever enjoyed. I cannot wait for season four and I hope I continues on for many more.

Sometimes tv shows have contributed to keeping checks and balances on serious real life issues. When Daniels fate is revealed, which I have not viewed 3 rd season yet. There are many stories from wrongly convicted that could be brought to light every six episodes. I’m sure the biggest challenge would be finding the correct and talented actor that could grasp these heart wrenching stories

I don’t think a character such as Daniel Holden has ever been so deeply explored on tv before. That Aden Young is such an engaging actor. I love everything about this series. Kudos to Ray Mckinnon, the writer, creator of the series

It got bad. It even started off very flawed. No family in their right mind would give this broken young man that much freedom. It became like really bad predictable tv. Why did he call tawney to come get him on the road?? Bad bad bad. If i didn’t love me some abby spencer as much as i do i wouldn’t watch this any of this dumpster fore of a series.

I actually like the show but they made some very questionable moves with the story lines and some are just really dumb. The finale was pretty compelling. Daniel is razor edge deadpan brilliant/ hilarious.

Love Rectify. Cannot understand why it’s not popular. Maybe it needed more advertisements. I’m so sorry for the cancellation.
