canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Rush: Cancelled by USA, No Season Two

by Trevor Kimball, October 2, 2014

Rush TV show on USA Network: canceled no season 2The doctor is out. USA Network has decided to cancel their Rush TV show after one season of 10 episodes.

Rush revolves around a talented and handsome physician (Tom Ellis) who had it all — but then lost it in one fateful night. Six years later, he’s a private doctor who treats less-than-squeaky-clean clientele in Los Angeles. The rest of the cast includes Harry Hamlin, Larenz Tate, Odette Annable, and Sarah Habel.

Debuting mid-July, the first episode of Rush attracted 1.7 million viewers with a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Not a very good start. The numbers for later episodes went up and down and the season averaged 1.65 million with a 0.4 in the demo.

Satisfaction, another new drama, had very similar ratings and either show could have been cancelled or renewed. USA ultimately chose to drop Rush and renew Satisfaction. The defacto series finale aired on September 18th.

What do you think? Did you like Rush? Would you have watched a second season?

I LOVED Rush. It was one of the few shows I looked forward to all week. Like Royal Pains, only much darker. Satisfaction, although promising at first, just became soft porn. Not interested. Tom Ellis made Rush interesting to watch. Hope we haven’t seen the last of him.

Not pleased with this news! Really enjoyed Rush. Showtime should pick up the series and have it take over the Nurse Jackie tike slot as this coming season is the last for Nurse Jackie. I know it won’t happen though. Actually I’m stunned that they didn’t cancel Satisfaction too. Like both shows!

Ok. I did like the show, but I think we have to be realistic too. It was destined to be short lived if they didn’t make some changes anyway. Anytime a show has the primary character as basically an addict who is barely keeping it in check enough to keep his license, yet always pulls last minute saves……Well the razzle dazzle gets old eventually and people move on. Like magic…..When you see it now and then it’s pretty cool, but if you see it a lot you stop being all that impressed about being fooled by illusions

Sponsors are stupid chasing after 18-45 year olds; they’re all broke living with their patents; 50-80 year olds have all the money and don’t all need medicine or Viagra; we travel, buy gadgets, eat out and indulge ourselves. RUSH was a better show than Satisfaction; sell Rush to Showtime as a companion to Ray Donovan

I am clapping for your comment. I so agree with you. Lets face it, both shows won’t change the world but I found Rush entertaining. Why couldn’t the Network give Rush a second chance. Not everything revolves as the 18-45 year olds. Satisfaction was a ad for Viagra.

I couldn’t agree more with you, Rush would actually be very good on Showtime too, they could make it grittier than USA could, it needs to have that harsh darkness akin to a HBO series.

I agree! While I am in the 18-45 demographic (41, so barely!!) I think it’s asinine to base the failure and success of a show just on that age group. Older folks (of which I consider myself one) have many of the same likes and preferences as the younger people do. I buy the same foods, shop at the same stores, drive the same cars–you name it. Just because I’m not 20 or even 30 anymore doesn’t mean I don’t have any life left in me. I’ve got a lot of it left and I enjoy it! 🙂 I absolutely… Read more »

Those of us older than the target ages generally have our living situations set by then. We’ve accumulated a lot of what we need and often much more of what we don’t need. Into our late 40’s and up we are a tougher sell. I think most of us are done trying to impress with new and often expensive stuff and are willing to stretch thing more to their usage than to their newness. Cars in particular. So even though we might be set and watching more of the shows it’s generally tougher to make us think “I need one… Read more »

RUSH WAS A GOOD SHOW. MUCH BETTER THAN SATISFACTION. I THINK THEY SHOULD GIVE IT ANOTHER TRY ON A DIFFERENT NETWORK. TRY A THURS OR FRIDAY TIME SLOT. WISH THE SENIOR TV VIEWERS COUNTED IN THE RATINGS BUT WE DON’T. WHEN IS SOMEONE GOING TO REALIZE WE ARE THE ONES AT HOME WATCHING TV. NOT THE 19-49 WHO ARE YOUNG AND OUT WITH FRIENDS DOING ACTIVE STUFF, OR THE MIDDLE AGED WHO WORK ALL DAY AND COME HOME TO DEAL WITH KIDS TOO TIRED TO STAY UP AND WATCH TV. ALSO WHATEVER HAPPENED TO CHANING THE TIME SLOTS. DID ANYONE… Read more »

You are kidding me, Rush cancelled and Satisfaction renewed. Rush is 100x better than the latter. Although it too has an incredible story line, it is fun and enjoyable to watch with great acting. Cannot say the same about Satisfaction. USA needs a reality check!!

Well, I’ve been a 1%er my whole life.
knee replacement, “you’ll up and around in a few days”…HA !
Ankle fusion, “I’ve performed dozens of these operations w/o any problems”, can still hardly walk.
Seems like 90% of the 1st season shows that I watch get cancelled.
At 66 years old, I’m about ready to throw in the towel !

Well if you look at the ratings on this site you see that the shows aren’t geared tothose of us over 40 in the first place. I know what you mean though. After a while you get the feeling if you like a show it’s kind of like the kiss of death because so many you like get cancelled before they get much of a chance to build an audience anymore

It had fairly good writing, fairly good story lines, but he was too much of a womanizing cad for the ladies looking for night time soaps on USA so naturally it got cancelled. Whereas Satisfaction really fit that night time soaps to a T.

Why couldn’t they give Rush another chance like Satisfaction. Either show was going to change the world so why not give Rush a shot. I guess Rush did not have enough sex to sustain the series.

I thought it was equally as interesting as Satisfaction and both should have been renewed!!! He was a great leading man…

I figured it would get cancelled. I stopped watching it after 3-eps. Nothing was going to change him and it was the same thing for 3-wks. The only difference was the change of clothes.
