by Trevor Kimball, April 25, 2013

snookij and woww season threeMTV has given the go-ahead for season three of Snooki & JWOWW, as well as picked up of new series like Guy Court, Generation Cryo, Nurse Nation, and The Hook Up.

Here’s the press release with more details:

MTV GREENLIGHTS PILOT FOR TV ADAPTATION OF “SCREAM” FILM FRANCHISE AT 2013 UPFRONT

Network Also Announces Three New Series Greenlights, Third Season of “Snooki & JWOWW” and Impressive Slate of 15 Returning Hits; Upfront Featured Performances by Selena Gomez and Emeli Sandé

MTV2 Announces New Series Greenlight “Guy Court,” Premiere Date for Re-Imagined “Nick Cannon Presents Wild N Out” and Season Two Pick Up of “Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family”

NEW YORK, NY (April 25, 2013) – MTV announced today a pilot greenlight based on the hugely successful horror film franchise “Scream” with Dimension Films for MTV, plus the addition of three new series to its diverse programming slate, including “Generation Cryo,” “Nurse Nation” and “The Hook Up,” at its annual Upfront Presentation at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. In addition, the network announced the season three renewal of “Snooki & JWOWW” and highlighted an impressive programming slate of 15 returning hits. MTV is a division of Viacom Inc. (NASDAQ: VIA, VIAB).

MTV and Dimension Film’s one-hour pilot will reinvent the successful horror comedy franchise that spawned three sequels and unleashed “Ghostface” to a legion of unsuspecting fans. MTV and Dimension Films are in discussions with various writers for the potential series which would be slated for a summer 2014 debut on the network. Dimension Films is in discussions with the films’ original director and renowned filmmaker Wes Craven to direct the one-hour pilot. DiGa Vision will serve as a producer.

The compelling new one-hour docu-drama “Generation Cryo” explores the issues faced by a new generation of kids coming of age who were conceived via anonymous sperm donors and are redefining what it means to be a family. The series will document the journey of Breeanna, a 17-year-old only child, who recently logged onto the Donor Sibling Registry, a website dedicated to connecting sperm donor families, and learned that she has at least 15 half-siblings all fathered by a man none of them know. Now, Bree’s on a mission to meet all of her half-brothers and sisters and lead them on a nationwide search to find their biological father.

“Nurse Nation” (working title) is a new docu-series that follows nine twenty-something travel nurses all assigned to work at a new hospital in a brand new city for 13 weeks. Some of them have been doing this for years, while others are on their first tour. Cameras will be there every step of the way as they take on the unique challenges and intense pressures of working in the medical profession as they face life or death decisions every day. But it’s not ‘all work and no play.’ On days off, they take advantage of all that their host city has to offer, meet new people and potential new loves while often trying to keep previous relationships and friendships alive. It’s the ultimate ‘work-hard/play-hard’ lifestyle.

“The Hook Up,” (working title) hosted by Andrew Schulz of MTV2’s popular hit series “Guy Code,” is a dating show that will air as an afternoon strip on MTV. Individuals looking for a match will choose from four potential suitors based on their social media history. With the help of their closest friends, the contestants will try to separate the contenders from the pretenders to see if what you see is really what you get.

It was also announced that “Snooki & JWOWW” has been renewed for a third season. The second season was the #1 original series in the time period across all TV for P12-34 as well as the #1 series in its time period across all TV for W 12-34. The third season of “Snooki & JWOWW” will continue to follow Jersey Shore BFF’s – Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Jenni “JWOWW” Farley – as they continue to navigate the radical changes that life keeps throwing at them. As Snooki and JWOWW have discovered, when you have your best friend by your side, there’s nothing you can’t face together – including marriage?

MTV2 today announced that comedian, actor and host Nick Cannon will debut the re-imagined improv comedy show “Nick Cannon Presents Wild N Out” on Tuesday, July 9 at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT. Joining Nick will be celebrity team captains including comedians Kevin Hart and Lil DuVal of MTV2’s “Guy Code,” professional basketball player Amar’e Stoudemire, along with rappers Mac Miller, 2Chainz, Machine Gun Kelly, A$AP Rocky and Joe Budden.

MTV2 also announced the addition of “Guy Court,” to its upcoming programming slate. In the half-hour comedic courtroom series, which will premiere in fall 2013, the laws of manhood will be upheld as some familiar MTV2 faces will determine the guilt or innocence of a variety of cases in accordance with Guy Code. Each real life case will be judged, defended and prosecuted with the perfect combination of comedy and justice. In addition, “Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family,” which recently wrapped its first season as the highest rated original debut season in MTV2 history, will return for a second season as the young music superstar embarks on a series of new adventures in his personal and professional life. The series will begin production later this year and premiere in early 2014.

The Upfront event was hosted by MTV News’ Sway Calloway plus Nikki Glaser and Sara Schaefer of “Nikki and Sara LIVE,” which was recently renewed for a second season, and included appearances by Mac Miller of “Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family;” Tyler Posey and Holland Roden of “Teen Wolf;” Nev Schulman and Max Joseph from “Catfish: The TV Show;” Vinny Guadagnino, his mom Paola and Uncle Nino, from the new series “The Show With Vinny;” cast members from the upcoming “Nurse Nation;” Nicole Byer, Jamie Lee, Tanisha Long and Carly Aquillino from “Girl Code” and Andrew Schulz from “The Hook Up.” The presentation also featured performances by Emeli Sandé who performed “Next to Me” and Selena Gomez who hit the stage to perform “Come & Get It” and “Love You Like a Love Song.”

MTV also presented its partnership with Jewelry for a Cause to help take illegal guns off the street with “MTV x Caliber” bracelets. These limited edition bracelets feature unique serial numbers from illegal firearms returned via gun buyback programs and are part of the Caliber Collection, a line from Jewelry for a Cause that is made, in part, from the steel of reclaimed illegal guns. Available for $40 at caliber.MTV.com, proceeds from these bracelets will be donated to help fund future illegal gun buyback amnesty programs.

I cannot wait to see JWOWW as a mother or Roger as a Dad. But, I bet they’ll be great! I also am hoping for double weddings! Love that show! 🙂
