canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Stargate Universe: Syfy TV Show Cancelled; No Season Three

by Trevor Kimball, December 16, 2010

Stargate UniverseSyfy has confirmed that there won’t be a third season for Stargate Universe. The science fiction series has been cancelled after two seasons and 40 episodes.

The first half of season two finished airing on November 30th. The second 10 episodes are expected to air in the Spring of 2011. Unless the cable channel comes up with a replacement, this will mark the first time since 2002 that a Stargate series hasn’t aired on Syfy (previously known as the Sci-Fi Channel).

Stargate Universe follows a diverse exploration team who is unable to return to Earth after evacuating to a Ancient spaceship that’s headed to a distant part of the universe. The cast includes Robert Carlyle, Louis Ferreira, Brian J. Smith, Elyse Levesque, David Blue, Alaina Huffman, Jamil Walker Smith, and Ming-Na.

Here’s the official statement from Syfy…

Syfy will end its original action-adventure series Stargate Universe when the show returns with the final 10 episodes of its second season in the Spring of 2011. The Stargate franchise — consisting of Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe — has aired on Syfy since 2002.

Syfy has a slate of new sci-fi/fantasy scripted projects lined up for 2011 including the series premiere of Being Human on January 17, the recently green lit one-hour drama series Alphas and the much anticipated Battlestar Galactica prequel pilot movie, Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome. Warehouse 13, Eureka and Haven will also return with new seasons next year.

It’s unclear if the final 10 episodes of Stargate Universe will give closure to the series.

What do you think? Are you sorry that SGU is coming to an end? Do you think the ongoing storylines will be resolved?

SyFy sucks big time. You invest time and interest in a show and when you really start to “get” it, they yank it off the air.
I hate SyFy at the moment but this too shall pass

Stargate Universe is the best show ever made, including all stargates. If they cancelled this show, in favor of aaaaanything off their current line up: big mistake. It’s the only reason I turn to Syfy, that and the commercials.Look forward to it every week.

Yeah … I agree … Wrestling shows are lame on SYFY … I definitely enjoyed Stargate Atlantis … especially Rodney’s character … and Shepard … he was the Capt Kirk … we miss … especially when Rodney was jealous that he was getting the women … he he he … ” Oh my god … you are Capt. Kirk” As for StarGate Universe … I watched it and I do not want it to be canceled … the blonde doctor is also an … on and off actor on Smallville … she is a super hero on there … I… Read more »

Good riddance! It was dreadful. Like a bad daytime soap in space. I hope the ship they are on gets pulled into a black hole never to be seen or heard of again.

I’m definitely happy to see this pathetic show get cancelled. I stopped watching after 3 episodes. I never liked any of the characters except for the fat geek (See, I couldn’t even watched the show long enough to find out his name).

Why did they have to cut Stargate Atlantis short and replace with this one. WHY??????!!?

Good riddance. Suk-fy stepped on their own d**ks again by canceling Atlantis and replacing it with this rehash of Battlestar Gallactica. Apparently they didn’t understand when no one watched that bastardized PC garbage either.

Their CGI giant (fill in the blank) of the week movies are getting old too. I have enough DVDs of actual and GOOD science fiction that I dont need to even watch this network anymore.

You’re right Greg. The “Syfy” (I prefer Sci-Fi) channel is starting to go the way of MTV. Ghosts are not sci-fi unless they are being projected by some type of holographic technology and vampires are just plain gay!

I really enjoyed the show. I thought the story line was compelling but most of all I cared about the characters. I feel cheated having invested so much time and limted DVR space to follow the show.

WHY. I HOPE THIS WASN’T BECAUSE OF PEOPLE RECORDING THE SHOW ON THEIR DVR OR TIVO. THIS WAS A VERY INTERESTING TWIST ON THE STARGATE SAGA AND NEEDS MORE TIME TO EXPLORE ITS POSSIBILATIES. STAR TREK WAS A SHOW ABOUT A SHIP AND ITS CREW EXPLORING THE GALAXY AND FACING ALL KINDS OF OBSTICALS. STARGATE UNIVERSE GIVES A FRESH LOOK AT THAT STYLE OF SHOW AND HAS A LOT OF ROOM FOR NEW TWIST TO THE STORYLINE WHILE TRYING TO MAKE IT BACK HOME. IT’S A SHAME THAT IT WON’T GET AT LEAST THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME THAT STARGATE… Read more »

That’s fine. It was just a so-so show anyway. Pity that it just started getting good (even if it was in a dark and depressing way). I say scrap it and bring back the Atlantis!

Oh, and SYFY, Wrestling and “Being Human” are NOT SCI FI – It stands for SCIENCE FICTION, which includes neither horror movies, vampires (save Madness Season, thanks C.S. Friedman!), nor ghosts.

Let’s get back to basics, Mmmkay?
