canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

The Island: Cancel or Keep the NBC Survival Series?

by Trevor Kimball, June 22, 2015

The Island TV show on NBC: cancel or renew for season 2?Airing on Monday nights, NBC’s The Island TV show is all about survival — but will this new series survive the ratings race? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?

Hosted by Bear Grylls, The Island features 14 American men as they try to survive on a deserted island without the luxuries — or even the basics — of contemporary everyday life. Unlike other reality shows, there are no prizes, no eliminations, no winners, and no camera teams. Everything viewers see has been filmed by the men themselves.

The series debuted on May 25th to a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.75 million viewers. In week two, the numbers fell slightly, to a 1.1 rating with 3.65 million. In week three, the numbers held steady. The series has been averaging a 1.13 in the demo with 3.67 million.

The ratings for The Island haven’t been very good, especially when compared to lead-in American Ninja Warrior — which is averaging 1.97 in the demo with 6.57 million viewers. On the positive side, it seems to have a devoted (albeit small) audience because the numbers have remained pretty consistent.

Based on the ratings, it doesn’t look like NBC has any reason to renew The Island for a second season. However, it’s not inconceivable that they could bring it back for another short run next summer.

But, what do you think? Would you watch a second season? Should NBC cancel or renew The Island for season two?

I enjoyed the show. It was real. Not like so many other fake reality shows. Could it be better? Sure thing. The best show just started called ALONE. That’s real survival.
As far as the killing goes. Grow up! At least they have real fortitude to gather their own food. It’s nice to have someone else kill it for you. But don’t put those people down…. because you’re too squeamish. Very few actual men anymore. Not in the U.S. anyway. .

Keep!

Real people trying to collaborate for survival without a prize money incentive.

I wouldn’t mind trying this one myself.

Tired of all this reality nonsense. Mosta these shows are phony as a Ford Corvette. I’d sooner watch a rerun of test patterns, or paint drying.

Cancel this show, Please!!! These must be the dumbest, laziest men ever. Built no shelter, wasted time, finally looked for water, spent 10 days without food instead of searching the island. Really!!! A bunch of sissies!!

Helen I’d love to see you out there. You know nothing about survival. These guys aren’t experienced survivalist. So they are expected to have their ups and downs. I bet you’d be on your knees crying after a day without water in 100 degree weather.

Get rid of this show. For an even better reality survival show NBC should just broadcast the lives of its news anchors who tell untruths and are sent to a corner for six months before returning to their multi-million dollar limelight seats.

Cancel the show. It is ridiculous that NBC cancelled so many great shows to put this **** on. Just plain dumb.

I think it’s GREAT. I think CBS should finally cancel SURVIVOR and let NBC replace it with this show. When SURVIVOR first started, the players were actually struggling to survive in the elements. Now it’s a farce. The Island is a more accurate depiction of what it takes to survive in the wild and has the social interaction elements that the SURVIVOR lovers like. The only thing missing is some female players. I “took a chance” on watching this show and find that i am burned out on SURVIVOR and enjoy this a whole lot more. SURVIVOR has run out… Read more »

CANCEL. Slaughtering a baby pig on camera is not family entertainment. Not exciting. Not fun. Not brave. Just sad, offensive, barbaric, and pathetic for no good reason. No wonder we watch less and less of your network.

Lol, no good reason? How about Food?? Real food, for real hungry people who really need food. Its not meant to be sad, offensive, barbaric or pathetic, its just meant to be food. I’d rather see every piece of meat in the store killed like this then all that fake bio-inudstries to make it easy for us people. THAT is barbaric, offensive, sad, not brave AND pathetic. Not the real hunting for real man. Take a glance at the UK version season 2, womans island. Where they did keep the little piggies as pets, until… they really got to be… Read more »
