The Returned

The Returned TV show on A&E: canceled or renewed?Network: A&E
Episodes: 10 (hour)
Seasons: One

TV show dates: March 9, 2015 — May 11, 2015
Series status: Cancelled

Performers include: Mark Pellegrino, Tandi Wright, Jeremy Sisto, India Ennenga, Sophie Lowe, Mat Vairo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kevin Alejandro, Sandrine Holt, Dylan Kingwell, Aaron Douglas, Rhys Ward, Leah Gibson, Agnes Bruckner, and Michelle Forbes.

TV show description:
Based on the French TV show Les Revenants, this dramatic series focuses on the small town of Caldwell which is turned upside down when several local residents — who have been believed dead for a long time — suddenly reappear. With them, they bring both positive and detrimental consequences.

As families are reunited, the lives of those who were left behind are challenged on both physical and emotional levels. Interpersonal relationships are examined with intrigue and depth as strange phenomena begin to occur.

Jack Winship (Mark Pellegrino) is a rugged and handsome man with a viscerally painful past. He owns the local tavern called Dog Star. He’s separated from Claire (Tandi Wright) and they are the parents of Lena and Camille (one of the victims).

Claire is currently dating Peter Lattimore (Jeremy Sisto), a psychologist who runs a grief support group for people in the town who are still struggling with the loss of loved ones from the school bus accident four years ago.

Camille Winship (India Ennenga) is a typical self-absorbed teen who was a victim of the bus accident that rocked Caldwell. Her sister Lena (Sophie Lowe) is rebellious and head strong and still struggles with the loss of her sister.

Simon Moran (Mat Vairo) is a good-looking, complex, self-absorbed, and sometimes insensitive young man. After a 10 year absence, Simon has come back to town somewhat confused.

Rowan Blackshaw (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) was Simon’s fiance. She had a very difficult time getting past his death but is now engaged to Tommy Solano (Kevin Alejandro), the town sheriff of Caldwell. She also has a young daughter named Chloe and will do anything to protect her.

Julie Han (Sandrine Holt) is a hardworking and compassionate doctor with no personal life. While coming home from the hospital one night, she sees eight-year-old Victor (Dylan Kingwell) waiting at the bus stop all by himself. She begins to feel responsible for the boy who speaks very little, he was killed 20 years earlier by intruders to murdered the rest of his family.

Tony Darrow (Aaron Douglas) is kind on the surface but harbors a tragic, violent secret. He’s the manager of Jack’s Dog Star tavern. His younger brother is Adam (Rhys Ward), an expert hunter with a dark nature and a complicated family history that he’s struggling to overcome.

Also working at the bar is Lucy McCabe (Leah Gibson), a free-spirited traveler who’s made her own way in the world from a young age. A barmaid and a con-artist, Lucy convinced Jack that she can hear the voice of his dead daughter Camille.

Very smart, Nikki Banks (Agnes Bruckner) is the town’s chief deputy and has a chip on her shoulder. She has a complicated connection with Julie.

Helen Goddard (Michelle Forbes) is searching for a purpose and it leads her to believe the town is cursed. She believes “the returned” are a sign of something evil.

Series Finale:
Episode #10 — Peter
Rowan and Tommy’s celebration is overshadowed by a mysterious premonition. Julie makes Victor face his tragic past. Camille realizes that she will never be normal and Helen’s plan meets a mysterious end.
First aired: May 11, 2015.

The Returned was about as stupid a show ever to drip from the diarhettic **** of any cable or network programming department. A&E is particularly guilty of this crap. The abortion called Bates Motel proves my assertion.
As far as the french precursor….well, it’s french.

I’m very disappointed to hear that “The Returned”, will actually not be returning. What’s the problem? I watched the sub-title French version on IFC until they cancelled it. Yet again, I find it to only be let down after finding the American version to be very nicely done, great drama, great acting & intense character struggle, cancelled yet again. Today’s t.v. shows are in jeopardy if they don’t shoot ratings through the roof right from the start. The days of the studio/station staying with a show, building it, shuffling through the weeks schedule to see where it will have it’s… Read more »

This was the best show on a&e ever. I am so mad that it’s over with such a cliffhanger. What do they need that hour for their other crappy shows or horrible ” reality” tv? Idiots bring it back i don’t want to watch it in French…….

I am very dissatisfied with you cancelling the show The Returned. I enjoyed it very much and will be boycotting your network. Does no one remember the first season of Cheers, ended on the bottom. But they had Faith in rhe show and look where Faith got them. People invest their precious time in your shows only to get cancelled. It show absolutely no respect for the viewer. Good bye A&E. Too bad I really enjoyed Bates Motel also, but will not be returning to watch. Greedy people you are. Sorry , but that’s how I see it.

This was the best show on tv- I even liked it better than Bates Motel. Don’t do this to us-don’t cancel it! It’s innovative and well-acted, and the setting is so gritty and real, it takes you in. Maybe it disturbs some people to imagine a loved one returning from the dead and going on about his or her life as though nothing had happened. But this IS a ghost story; and each one of them has returned with a supernatural ability. Please don’t leave it this way! We want to see what happens next!
