The search is truly over for the Magus crew. ABC has cancelled The River, their mid-season thriller series, after just one season of eight episodes.
The River follows the search for Emmet Cole (Bruce Greenwood), an adventurer, TV host, father and husband who disappeared while on an expedition deep in the uncharted waters of the Amazon River. Others in the cast include Joe Anderson, Leslie Hope, Eloise Mumford, Paul Blackthorne, Thomas Kretschmann, Daniel Zacapa, Shaun Parkes, and Paulina Gaitan.
The TV series had an okay premiere, registering a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.35 million viewers. Unfortunately later episodes didn’t do nearly as well and towards the end of its short season it went as low as a 1.3 in the demo with 4.09 million.

On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative success of shows on the network, The River has a “D” grade and is one of the lowest-rated shows on ABC this season. It’s no surprise that the network has cancelled it.
While you won’t see a second season ABC, there’s still a glimmer of hope that Netflix could pick it up. The movie rental/streaming service had preliminary discussions with ABC Studios about possibly picking up the show if ABC ended up canning it.
There’s been no word since the initial story but, now that the show’s been cancelled, perhaps we will. ABC holds their upfront presentation on Tuesday so we may learn some more information at that time.

The River needs to be brought back! ABC you have created an amazing TV show with huge potential, but you made the worst mistake when you decided to cancel it. I really hope NETFLIX picks this up and continues the series!

Please give us a season 2! It is such an amazing show and I’ve never seen anything like this! The idea is so fresh and extraordinary! There are so many fans of it, please bring this awesome show back for us!
I loved season 1. I was so disappointed when there was no more. But it could have just worked as it did finding cole and thanks for the mini season

HOW ON EARTH DID ABC CANCEL THIS SHOW!!! NETFLIX, GO AHEAD AND PICK THIS SHOW UP FOR A SECOND SEASON ATLEAST! GIVE IT A CHANCE. “There’s magic out there”..:)

I cannot believe this show got cancelled!! As far as sci-fi/horror is concerned- it’s one of the best series I’ve seen Hands Down!! Some decisions are bad ones…but this bad decision is HUGE!! What separates this series from most is the actors- they did great BELIEVABLE acting and the writers wrote scripts that were void of the typical sickening Hollywood “I’m so cute and witty” crap that saturates most series today. This was like a movie that I didn’t want to end…and That’s the Ultimate compliment* 😉

I just found this show and loved it! So annoyed it was cancelled :'( wouldn’t it be great to if it got a season 2 that will go back and see what has happened to the characters over the last 4 years.
the Series was brilliant. Even Stephen King loved it, so it shows it was very good….so why was it cancelled
