canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Welcome to Sweden: NBC Picks Up Season Two of Summer Sitcom

by Trevor Kimball, August 4, 2014

Welcome to Sweden TV show on NBC season 2NBC has picked up the second season of their low-rated summer sitcom, Welcome to Sweden. There will be 10 episodes.

On Welcome to Sweden, a successful New Yorker (Greg Poehler) agrees to follow his girlfriend (Josephine Bornebusch) as she returns to her hometown of Stockholm. Others in the cast are Lena Olin, Claes Månsson, Christopher Wagelin, Per Svensson, Patrick Duffy, and Illeana Douglas.

The series has garnered low ratings, even for a summer series. The latest episode drew a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.52 million total viewers.

However, the peacock network merely licenses the show so it doesn’t cost NBC very much when compared to producing their original programming. In April, it was renewed for a second season in Sweden so it would seem like a given that NBC would pick up season two here but that hasn’t been the case with other summer shows.

You may recall that licensed shows Crossing Lines, The Listener, and Merlin were all dropped by NBC after one season.

Parks and Recreation’s Amy Poehler is among the show’s producers so that may have played into the decision to keep Welcome to Sweden as well.

What do you think? Do you like Welcome to Sweden? Do you think NBC should have committed to season two or should they have cancelled it?

I absolutely love this show. It is smart, funny and hilarious. Not many shows make you laugh out loud, but this one really does. So glad to hear it has been picked up for a second season. They need to really promote it more as I am sure more people would watch it if they knew about it.

NBC buy it, or Netflix will… Check out Lillyhammer, if you like Scandinavian humor.

I’m so glad we are getting a second season! This is one of the few family shows that are great for everyone. We can’t wait until next season gets here. It’s hard to find a family show that everyone actually likes. We all sit, laugh and enjoy this show! We can’t stand these dumb reality shows. Please hurry and get this show on air!!

I’m so glad for a second season of “Welcome to Sweden”! Great family show! Our whole family watches this together and we are laughing and enjoying. It’s rare to find a show that the whole family likes. When will the show start we keep looking for it to start??

Hi

Really funny and glad for a second season. One issue was also that even after the 1 season started running, many had no clue “what” it was among my friends for example, but once they knew, they stayed tuned watching it.

I see a few shades of Seinfeld in there, really, mixed through the Swedish blender, which makes the show interesting, funny and I dare say exciting, but in a rather buttoned up Swedish way. The show does a great job picking apart the different way different cultures see things. Which, like Seinfeld, makes it more than just another rehashing sitcom. FYI IMO Sweden is a good country and Stockholm is a great town, and if you want to have some fun try it around Halloween, they run Europes largest Halloween Parade, called appropriately enough Shockholm.

The reason nbc has such low ratings… pixels covering body parts, English translation of Swedish is very very dumbed down. Add to it.. cast having to re-Dub their script words to meaningless babble… frigging??? Really. The word is f.u.king as are all the other words on ever sentence nbc has castrated. With all the Edits, re-shooting (different angles), covering natures natural human bodies with pixels, and incorrect translations plus Actual English words replaced by children’s babble nonsense. .. I am surprised anyone in usa watches it. Download the Swedish version. It has more humour. Although it would be good of… Read more »
