canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Wipeout: Cancelled by ABC, No Season Eight?

by Trevor Kimball, July 11, 2015

Wipeout TV show on ABC: canceledIt’s looking like Wipeout is all washed up on ABC. The competition series hit some lows in the ratings last summer, was left off the schedule this summer, and now, it’s been removed from the network’s website.

On Wipeout, contestants try to make it through the “world’s largest obstacle course.” The person that makes it in the shortest time wins a cash prize. The program is hosted by John Anderson, John Henson, and Jill Wagner.

The show’s ratings have been coming down over the years and the seventh season was no exception. The 12 episodes, which finished airing in September 2014, registered just a 0.97 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.52 million viewers. That was down about 10% season-to-season.

Some assumed that the show had been renewed because applications were being accepted for a new version of the show called Wipeout Extreme. However, it’s worth remembering that it’s not uncommon for production companies to do that to prepare in case another season gets greenlit and needs to be produced quickly.

ABC hasn’t publiclly renewed or cancelled Wipeout but the network has now removed all traces of the show from their website. They could bring it back at some point but, for now, it looks like Wipeout is done on ABC.

What do you think? Do you like the Wipeout TV show? Would you like to see it return for an eighth season — on ABC or some other channel?

I love the show with the two Johns. I hope it gets picked up by another network.

Wipeout’s an Awesome show!!! …. Hope they bring it back soon. I think the ratings started to fall when they moved it to Sundays.

It would be a shame to take Wipeout off the air. It is an enjoyable show that the whole family can watch. It is SO much better than some of the dark, evil dramas that are on. Everyone needs something fun to laugh at sometimes. I believe the ratings suffered because they moved it around. I also think that it suffered when Jill left. I really hope they will bring it back or another network will pick it up! It was my son’s favorite show!

It is a shame that ABC will cancel this show. Was a highlight if my week when on. Laughed so hard and took all my worries away for a little while. Just dumb clean fun.

I love wipeout and hearing it may be canceled really sucks. It is not surprising though that everytime I love a show it gets canceled while football lasts forever and that is the worse sport ever. I really loved winter wipeout. PLEASE BRING IT BACK Please!!!!”””””””

The show is funny as all hell but the commentators were sometimes bad. The hosts weren’t always the best but .the show was good. Hey it’s better than most other shows even with bad hosts. Keep the show.

Wipeout was fun mindless fare. SOOOOOOOO much better than the fake fake reality shows like The Bachelor or Bachelorette.

Susan, you are right. Those shows you are referring to are probably scripted in some way, and edited for “entertainment”. You can’t fake falling or being slow or scared or laughter…if you do fake it, it can be seen. Isn’t if funny (no pun intended) how we get laughter out of other people’s misery at times…lol. But, we are laughing WITH them not AT them…lol. And someone said the network didn’t take care of it, and the network didn’t. Bouncing it around, changing times and start dates, etc. is not going to keep an audience.

If they want the ratings to go back up, ditch the final round. Nobody cares about the winners. The best part of that show were the early rounds in which people fell and got pummeled in hilarious ways. And show more of Jill laughing at the contestants. She is hysterical.

I disagree about not wanting to see the final round. It was needed to see who could master the hardest level of all and get the money. Anyone can fall and get pummeled and messed up, but they don’t deserve to win money for falling. I think too much of a hiatus in between shows is what killed it and changing days the show was on. Pick a day and leave it alone. I do agree with you on seeing more of Jill. She was just as much of the show as John and John. It also hurt the show… Read more »

Really hope it returns. Maybe ABC is just putting it aside for the moment and taking a break, like they did with The Mole way back when. It’s hard to find a better camaraderie between the hosts on a show than on Wipeout — the two Johns and Jill were a funny combination. I had my suspicions about the show being cancelled when ABC removed it from their website and Endemol started advertising their new show Bullseye on FOX, but I’m still hopeful ABC hasn’t thrown out the concept of Season 8 entirely. Until they make an official announcement on… Read more »

Wipeout was one of the only shows my family would watch together. We loved this show from the very first episode. If this is true, we will miss it.

Ah, bummer. I got giggles out of watching this show. Too bad it got the ax. I’m sad, but it’s not one of those shows I’m going to be extremely upset over not returning.

The show is hilarious, the network didn’t take care of it, I hope it moves to a different station with the same people.
