All My Children, One Life to Live: Cancelled Soaps Still Alive?

by Trevor Kimball, December 8, 2011

All My Children, One Life to LiveDespite the fact that Prospect Park announced that they were suspending their efforts to continue the ABC soaps online, they apparently haven’t given up on All My Children and One Life to Live quite yet.

According to Variety, Prospect Park principals Jeff Kwatinetz and Rich Frank are continuing to hold meetings and explore options. The discussions are considered to be preliminary but one of the options being looked at is bringing in an overseas firm and turn the shows into a co-production.

A deal like that might allow them to get around having to make expensive agreements with the unions which was believed to be a sticking point. It remains to be seen of course if the talent behind or in front of the cameras will agree to what they’re offered.

Though Prospect Park is far from making the online continuation a reality, the company has the rights to continue both soaps for one year after they’ve aired their ABC series finales — September 2012 for All My Children and January 2013 for One Life to Live.

Sources have indicated that the Prospect Park principals are still intent on resuscitating the soaps on the Internet. Their goal is to use them to serve as the anchors for a broader online-network.

What do you think? Do you think a deal could really work out? If you had to choose, which soap should survive — AMC or OLTL?

Just bring them both back…….all ABC has is talk shows: Live with Kelly, the 1st Dr. Oz., The View, News, The Chew, The Revolution and the awesome General Hospital, the 2nd Dr. Oz of the day, the 5 oclock news, the 6 oclock news and the 630 news…..come on ABC really I think this line up stinks…….Can’t you tell from the lousy ratings you guys have right now that us soap opera fans want something other than talk shows with several annoying people trying to out talk the other one…..Resurrect our soap operas and watch your ratings sky rocket.

No one cares to hear from Katie, take the hint, she’s done NBC and CBS . . .get a clue, she isn’t anyone’s favorite!!! You can take her and the View and cancel and give us back AMC and OLTL!! The View has become nothing but an irritation! Barbara is too old and just jumps in to talk about herself. Then there is Joy, speaking of a b—-! I use to lime Whooping, but she and her mouth. . .between causing and improper use of the English language along with her sloppy dress…even Rosie at least wore proper cloths. Bring… Read more »

I would watch the soaps in any medium. Have been watching them for almost 35 years! I will never watch the new, stupid talk shows (i.e., the chew and revolution)!

Personally they can take off all these reality, talk show crap, I think they should put the two soaps back on tv, the soap channel or another channel. You know they took off the best two soaps in my opinion. What idiot decided this junk anyways, BAD DECISION!

I am retired now and look forward to watching OLTL each day. It is exciting and makes my day. Hope it will be continued. I am not watching Thw Chew and will not watch Revolution. There are enough shows like that on tv, but only OLTL.
