TV show description:
This sci-fi police drama takes place 35 years into the future, in the year 2048. It’s a world in which police officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids.
Detective John Kennex (Karl Urban) is a cop who’s survived one of the most catastrophic attacks ever made against the police department. He wakes up after a 17-month coma. He can’t remember much — except that his partner was killed. He’s lost one of his legs and is now outfitted with a highly sophisticated synthetic appendage. He suffers from depression, mental atrophy, trauma-onset OCD, PTSD and the “psychological rejection of his synthetic body part.”
John returns to work at the encouragement of his longtime ally, Captain Sandra Maldonado (Lili Taylor). Every cop must now be paired with a robot and, despite his passionate aversion to androids, John is no exception.
He’s partnered with a battle-ready MX-43 model. He abruptly terminates this pairing after the robot discovers incriminating information about him. As a result, technician Rudy Lom (Mackenzie Crook) introduces John to Dorian (Michael Ealy), a discontinued android with unexpected emotional responses.
Although these responses were deemed flaws, it’s these “flaws” that John relates to Dorian most — John is part-machine and Dorian is part-human. John and Dorian’s understanding of each other not only complements them, it connects them.
As he adjusts to working with his new partner, John also must learn to get along with his new colleagues, like the sharp and insightful human intelligence analyst Detective Valerie Stahl (Minka Kelly) and Detective Richard Paul (Michael Irby), a distrustful man who doesn’t welcome John back with open arms.
Episode #13 – Straw Man
Kennex and Dorian revisit the past when a string of murders are similar to those committed by a serial killer who was put in jail by Kennex’s father. Dorian gets his first performance review after being reactivated.
First aired: March 3, 2014.
What do you think? Do you like the Almost Human TV series? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for another season?
Almost Human should NOT have been cancelled. TV execs need to realize that there are viewers that LIKE to use our brains, figure out an unfolding puzzle, enjoy sharp writing/scripts and follow an evolving story line with evolving characters. This show was very well cast – all the actors were really fun to watch. I just was so mad when I heard it was cancelled. I just don’t see why they keep investing money into 10 different versions of CSI and Law and Order instead of letting us have the choice of watching something fresh and innovative (and sometimes really… Read more »
It was one of my favorite shows among all the shows that I watch and was one of my favorite new shows along with Sleepy Hollow. Not many Sci-Fi shows out there, and Almost Human was possibly the best. Great writing, great actors, and loved the comedy. FOX needs to reconsider. If it were me, I would move a show to another night for a few weeks and see how it works with the audience before cancelling. Way to screw it up FOX.
What the hell, why was it cancel? I love this show! I love the idea of how everything is so futuristic. Love the actors and how they place such good ideas on each episode, I was waiting for the new episodes, since I work so much I was not aware that it was cancel. I was wondering ? What happen, were is the new episode? So is cancel? That is B.S I love the idea of this show-of how androids can be giving an artificial soul, it makes you imagine of all the possibilities that we can have in the… Read more »
Quite frankly this is bloody ridiculous. Almost Human is an intelligent show with very good acting and a believeability to it that considering it’s premise is an excellent achivement. Any sci-fi fan would love this and with so few of these sort of shows on now it seems criminal to stop it. When are companies like Fox going to listen to the proper audience and fans and not just the idiotic beaurocrats that havent got a clue about what the public wants.
I truly look forward to watching this show. I’m so sad to see it was cancelled and honestly, I’m baffled. I don’t know how many times I spoke of this show to others and then, they too became fans of Almost Human. It definitely has the potential to have a storyline that could easily last for many many years. A lot of shows now do not have that potential. I love a good drama that makes me think outside of my world and it’s a bonus if I can learn a few things too. Reality tv and adult cartoons have… Read more »
Almost human was a great show on tv… looking forward to season two I hope it ll be available soon in asia too.
Enjoyed the show Would like to see it renewed
Fox really ****** up Almost human was a great show, good writers and good plot so why the **** would they do this to the Almost human fans I just hope fix it
I hope they reconsider. There are very few programs that I watch on network TV. This was definitely one of them.
I am very much disappointed that the show has been cancelled. In my opinion I thought the program was well put together. I am a fan of NCIS (not NCIS/LA) and thought this was on that level. The characters were believable. The set was not hokey and there was limited, if any foul language. The interaction between Kenex and Dorian was the highlight of the show, though the other characters helped round it out.
I loved it I was waiting for another episode when it ouccred to me it might be cancelled.
Mehn, **** this ****! I thought that show was good. Between Vampire Dairies and Game of Thrones, there weren’t many good shows. This was one of them. Hell….**** Fox.
I hope they will reconsider, it’s one of the few shows I looked forward to.
I loved this show! Why? everyone I talked with loved it also….never have thought Fox was too smart about programming….it is now confirmed.
Okay! So I’m a little behind in realizing Almost Human was cancelled. Nevertheless, I LOVED that program. I kept looking for it and assuming it was preempted for something stupid. Today, I found out the worst. It’s gone. What is the matter with Fox?! I have no doubt that classics from years past would be cancelled if they were shown today, i.e., Cheers, Newhart, M*A*S*H*, Mary Tyler Moore, etc., etc., etc. If a cable station was smart, Almost Human would be picked up to continue on.
I guess Almost Human was too unique for Fox. With all the police shows on every station, Fox was the only one to have a futuristic cop show and it was good. I guess it’s back to following other stations with cartoons and reality shows.
