canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

America’s Next Great Restaurant: NBC Reality Series; Cancel or Keep It?

by Trevor Kimball, March 21, 2011

America's Next Great Restaurant cancel keepNBC recently debuted a new reality TV show for Sunday nights, America’s Next Great Restaurant, and paired it with the latest edition of Celebrity Apprentice. How is it faring? Will it last as long as Donald Trump’s series or be cancelled after one season?

America’s Next Great Restaurant features contestants from across the country who pitch restaurant ideas to a panel of chef and entrepreneur judges. Those who are chosen go through various challenges and are mentored until a winner is chosen. The winner of the competition will receive financial backing so that they can open three restaurant locations, one each in Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and New York. Judges include Curtis Stone, Bobby Flay, Lorena Garcia, and Steve Ells.

The series first aired on Sunday, March 6th. It attracted a very under-whelming 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 4.59 million viewers, a distant last place for the timeslot. In week two, the ratings dropped 13%, registering a 1.4 demo rating and 4.06 million. Last night, the reality series dropped another 14%, to a 1.2 demo rating and 3.93 million viewers (per the early ratings).

What do you think of America's Next Great Restaurant?

After just three airings, America’s Next Great Restaurant is already one of NBC’s worst-performing shows of the season and there’s no indication that the numbers won’t keep falling.

This one is a ratings dud and there’s simply no reason for NBC to bring it back for a second season. More than likely, they’re trying to figure out if they want to air the remaining six episodes. For now, the finale is scheduled to air on May 1st.

But, what do you think? Is the series worth watching? Would you keep it on the air or just cancel it already?

After watching the last episode I realized who are these four individuals who think they are so much better then everyone else. Honestly I don’t think these judges are very good at all. Happy to see grill billies go they should have left five shows ago for not haing their stuff together. I really feel Soul Daddy and Harvest Sol should both be invested. Just because these judges don’t invest in them doesn’t mean somebody else shouldn’t.

I like watching this show if only to find out a cool new place to eat. I agree that the judges are lame asses but so far I think they have released the right people.

I like the show. Yes!! I’d like the show to still be aired. I have big ideas that only a forum like this will give me the opportunity to bring my ideas and concept on the table and let it be judge by Investors and the public. No Capital, but a Big idea and concept.

Started out pretty good, then Investors went ‘nuts’ on what THEY want !! Have these people so confused they’ve probably already forgoten what their original conception was.

I LOVE THIS SHOW! How could anyone NOT like it? Is it because it is not packed with ridiculous melodrama? Please bring it back again!

I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!! I watch a lot of the cooking shows. I have been in the food business all my adult life in one way or the other. I am a baker by trade . I love what I do , I just hate where I have to work. Wouldn’t it be such an opportunity for someone like myself. I hope they do keep this show because I would be the first one to sign up. I have the know how and desire to do anything it takes to be the founder for something so special. BOBBY FLAY ,… Read more »

Bad format, poor editing, background music very distracting, too much emphasis on the ego driven judges. Difficult to understand the poorly explained format. Cancel immediately and replace with a garden competition show!!

the show is a dud…recorded it one time and fast fowarded to the end…it is terrible…the judges are all on mega ego trips…why do we always have to have a judge who has an accent that can’t be understood…show is a low level copy cat…..
