Romantic vampires are all the rage once again, what with HBO’s popular True Blood series and fans anxiously awaiting the release of the next Twilight movie. So, what does Joss Whedon, creator of Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, think about this renewed interest in the genre?
In talking to MTV, Whedon recalled back to 1997 when he was originally conceiving the now-legendary romance between brooding vampire Angel (David Boreanaz) and beautiful slayer Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar).
He said, “I thought a vampire romance with a slayer… people are going to laugh me out of the room. They’ll never go for it. Clearly I was wrong. There’s something really timeless about it. I saw Twilight… there’s something primal about that story. You can’t get away from it and it just works like gangbusters.”
But make no mistake about it, Whedon still backs his guy. Who does he think would win in a battle of Angel and Twilight’s Edward Cullen?
Whedon says, “I think Robert Pattinson is really cool. Angel would kick the s**t out of him. He’s Angelus. There’s no Edward ‘Cullunus.’ He just gets shiny in the sun. Boreanaz would have him down in a heartbeat. No offense, cause [Pattinson ‘s] hot.
What do you think? Would Angel win or would Edward surprise?

Yeah, Edward has NOTHING on Angel or Spike.
You might as well ask who would win in a fight between a pit bull and a chihuahua! Angel wouldn’t even have to vamp out to snap Edward like a twig.

I actually loved Twilight till I noticed an annoying resemblence between the Bella/Edward love story to my favorite TV Romance of Angel and Buffy. Umm has anyone else noticed that it’s a total rip off? If not, watch Buffy seasons 1-3 then watch and read Twilight… yea im sticking with Buffy and Angel, they’d turn the Cullen Couple into dirt!

Real vampires don’t SPARKLE! THEY COMBUST! I just think that little plot twist is pure hokey. It makes the vampires seem less dark and fierce. Angel (and Spike) totally have that where the Cullens do not.
though I’d have to agree with about half the people here… SPIKE would win in a showdown between the three of them.

Twilight was good but there isn’t the same darkness and serious evil forces that the buffyverse had so I think any of the vamps from buffy or angel would kick the crap out of any of the creatures from twilight oh and spike would come out on top of all if of course buffy wasn’t in the fight

Angel would kick the crap out of Edward, Spike and any other vamp out there. Edward and all of the other vampires in the Twilight series were lame vampires. Even the supposed ‘bad’ ones were weak and not at all scary. Twilight was just a love story w/ claims that it had vamps in it to get attention. I do like Twilight but Buffy and Angel are so much better than anything Twilight.
