It was recently revealed that Banshee will be ending with the upcoming fourth season. Some see this as a cancellation but the series is ending on its own terms, no because Cinemax cancelled it.
A source tells HitFix, “We have not been canceled, but on the creative side, we have decided to end the show, basically because we were done telling the story. As Cinemax’s highest-rated show, no one was looking to cancel us. It was a creative decision. The premise was never meant to survive a long stretch. We all made the decision at the end of season 3 that we were going to make season 4 our grand finale.”
Yesterday, Banshee co-creator Jonathan Tropper shared his perspective on Twitter:
As we planned out season 4 of Banshee in the writers room, it became increasingly clear to me that the story was reaching its natural end.

Love this show, just started watching it for a second time and it’s just as good (only 3 episodes in). If they ever do a reboot of any type I be there for each episode. Bring it back!!

Hey, it’s now 2017 and I personally miss Banshee yet today. I’m a jaded senior theater professor, but Banshee cut through all my red tape. I think you should shoot a reunion special before everyone gets too old do their own stunts.
I never had HBO so a friend to check out od library. Loved it so much spent hours straight thru many episodes. I have now gotten to last season and cried that no more will be made. Everything about the show was so great it is hard to express its greatness.

It is sad that Cinemax choose to end this series. Especially considering how season 4 ends, expectations of what happens next is higher than ever. What would happen on with Job and Lucas Hood. Wild Sugar Bates follow? survived Kai Proctor? I know that history has ended here, but you have opened the possibilities to create an even better series with much better results than those first 4.
