The BrainDead TV show has been cancelled after its first season on CBS. Deadline reports the summer series’ cancellation is due to low ratings. No surprise, there.
A comedic political thriller, the BrainDead cast includes: Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Danny Pino, Aaron Tveit, Tony Shalhoub, Nikki M. James, Johnny Ray Gill, Charlie Semine, and Jan Maxwell.
Created by The Good Wife‘s Robert and Michelle King, BrainDead is set in the world of Washington, DC politics. Fresh-faced, Laurel Healy (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has returned home to Washington, DC to work for her brother, Senator Luke Healy (Danny Pino) on Capitol Hill.
What do you think? Did you watch the first season of the BrainDead TV series? Do you think BrainDead should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season on CBS? Sound off in the comments.
i am angry
I like it much better than The Walking Dead. It’s all about suspension of disbelief… It’s much easier to believe a parasite could affect the human race then the concept of zombies. No matter how much time I gave TWD, I couldn’t get past the zombie apocalypse theme. At least Brain Dead had a theme running parallel with current government mixed with humor, satire and (fairly) good writing.
So sorry this show is not being renewed. Love the story. Love the actors. Great ensemble. You care about the characters and that makes it a nail biter.
Loved the season! Please reconsider renewing the show.
Of course it wasn’t renewed. All good shows get the axe. The lame, tired cop and hospital show stay on for years! This is why I mostly watch Amazon, Netflix or HBO. There aren’t but two or three show on regular tv that are worthy of watching.
If Robert and Michelle King had a four-season plan for “BrainDead” which would have saw its future seasons take place in Wall Street, Silicon Valley, and Hollywood, I think “BrainDead” should have become exclusive to CBS All Access (like that “The Good Wife” spin-off series that the Kings are also doing). Sorry that “BrainDead”‘s ratings and viewership were so low, and I actually skipped a couple of episodes.
Of course. Just because it was funny, well written and cast, etc.
I’m very sorry to see it go. I really enjoyed it and would love to see someone pick it up. I promise to keep watching.
The show was brilliant and funny. I’m not surprised it was a one-season deal, just disappointed. They did leave an opening for more shows, though, so maybe someday….
Not suprising that it wasn’t renewed, since it was billed from the start as a limited-run series. Limited-run (previously called a miniseries) means that there’s one season only, there was never going to be a second season.
Of course, sometimes if the ratings are good enough, the network will turn a limited-run series into an annual series. This almost always results in a disaster because the last few episodes get stretched out into another season or two, completely destroying the pace of the show. (See “Under the Dome” for a recent example.)
Literally, a NO BRAINER. It wasn’t the best summer show by far. Animal Kingdom was tremendous and Queen of the South was also better. Someone said Braindead was smart? It was too stupid for me.
The best summer show bar none and from what I’ve seen on CBS, better than most of their fall programing. A good satirical comedy that likely was too smart for most people
The cancellation is not surprising. Brain Dead was too smart for weekly network television. Under normal circumstances, I’d expect to see it picked up by Amazon Prime, Netflix, or some cable outlet. But the story line concentrated on the infestation of the bugs from outer space, so once their Queen was killed, it was done. Too bad, Mary Elizabeth Winstead was great and the up-to-the-minute nature of the political backdrop made a lot of fun. It was far better than I expected. But like Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip before it, it makes for great binge watching, so find… Read more »
Sorry to hear that. Loved the show.
Tragic… This was one of the good ones… Would’ve at least made a great addition to add to their failing OTT app, CBS ALL Access.
BrainDead was zany fun and a breath of fresh air on the waves. Not that surprised those who fill out the Nielsen ratings reports did not get past the first level but do think perhaps a social media campaign could save it. Or at least let the network know there are many people out there who enjoy something different from what Nielsen raters watch. Have any of you ever known someone who was a Nielsen rater/respondent? i never have and I think that’s why more stupid TV shows are mostly what we get.
Too bad, Braindead was the best new show that came out over the summer. The acting was great and the comedy was hilarious. I especially liked the weekly musical recap.
I loved Brain Dead. I am so sorry to see it go. I dvrd every episode. Still have it. A consolation.
A tour de force, funny, politically pointed, well cast and acted. I laughed outloud several times. Alas, too smart and witty for the witless who watch Two Broke Girls and other drivel.
