Robert and Michelle King found success with their last CBS series, The Good Wife. Now, they’re trying something different with BrainDead. How will it perform in the ratings? Cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.
On BrainDead, Laurel Healy (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has returned home to Washington, DC to work for her brother, Senator Luke Healy (Danny Pino) on Capitol Hill. She is caught in the midst of two huge problems: the government has stopped working due to budgetary disagreements, and mysterious bugs are eating the brains of a growing number of members of Congress and Hill staffers. The rest of the cast includes Aaron Tveit, Tony Shalhoub, Nikki M. James, Johnny Ray Gill, Charlie Semine, and Jan Maxwell.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
10/18 update: CBS has cancelled BrainDead after one season. Details here.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the BrainDead TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Love this show! Please renew. Smart, funny and I need to know what happens next season!
Love this show – Gunsmoke bit was brilliant and so creative – please renew this show

BrainDead is fantastic. Ask CBS to renew on their feedback page-

Love BrainDead! This show is amazing. Excellent writing and Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Tony Shaloub are fantastic. Best thing on TV. Agree with the other comments that the VOD views won’t count in the ratings. Please Please Please renew!
If nothing else, give more work to whoever writes the opening song that serves as a synopsis of the previous episode. Genius!
Jonathan Coulton is so great! Loved the one tonight with Gunsmoke!
This is a good, offbeat comedy that manages to be topical as well. Really well-cast. We haven’t missed an episode all summer.
CBS should sell this show to FX.
THEY ALWAYS SUPPORT LOW RATING SHOWS
Amusing concept, and wonderful to see a Sister/Brother team. It clears the plotline of the required “will she/will he?” between the leads!
There may be a problem with ratings because no VOD–if you don’t see it as it airs, you don’t get to see it later!
Luckily Amazon Prime shows it within a few days…IF you have Prime!
But how many watch a show at it’s broadcast anymore? Clearly more people would likely follow it– if it were available!
Please renew, really enjoying this series, give it a chance, advertising is key, never heard of it until it came on amazon, love it
Mary Elizabeth Winstead is a good lead and Tony Shaloub seems to be having just too much fun. It slowed down a bit after the start, but they might turn up the crazy for the final episodes. I’m not holding my breath for renewal, though.
Really loving this show and hope it gets renewed. I just think it wasn’t marketed enough for everyone to hear about it and that’s why the rating are low. If it gets renewed, they should focus on clever marketing to get a wider audience cause the show is quite clever
