canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Burn Notice: Is Season Seven the End?

by Trevor Kimball, November 7, 2012

Burn Notice season sevenLast week we reported that USA Network was working on a deal to renew Burn Notice for a seventh and final season of 13 episodes. Today, the cable channel announced that they had indeed renewed the show for 13 more episodes.

They didn’t say however that the seventh season will be the show’s last but one has to wonder. Though Burn Notice is USA’s most popular scripted series, they’re only renewing it for 13 episodes — the show’s smallest season since year one. Seasons two and three had 16 episodes each while years four, five, and six have had 18 installments each.

Do they want to use these 13 episodes to wrap up the show? We shall see.

Star Jeffrey Donovan recently told reporters on a conference call, “I think probably season seven will be our final season, and it will probably come down to those two people probably in some devastating fashion.”

Here’s the press release from USA. Please share your theories below.

USA NETWORK FIRES UP SEASON SEVEN ORDER FOR RATINGS POWERHOUSE “BURN NOTICE”

Emmy(R)-Nominated Original Drama Celebrates Its 100th Episode Milestone

NEW YORK, NY – November 7, 2012 – USA Network’s longest running original drama BURN NOTICE, consistently one of cable’s top scripted series, today received a 13-episode pickup for its seventh season. In 2013, the Emmy(R)-nominated series will join an elite group as the third show in the network’s history to reach 100 episodes. This pick-up completes the renewals of summer’s most successful block on television following the recent third season order of USA original SUITS.

“BURN NOTICE is like a fine wine that gets better with age,” said USA Network Co-Presidents Chris McCumber and Jeff Wachtel. “Delivering high-octane action, gripping drama and nearly 7 million viewers for the mid-season finale, this veteran series is a proven staple of our portfolio.”

Fast-paced spy thriller BURN NOTICE follows the formerly black-listed spy Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan), currently working under-the-radar with the CIA on special projects. Michael’s eclectic team includes ex-IRA operative and girlfriend Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar), washed up former Navy Seal Sam (Bruce Campbell), ex-counter-intelligence agent Jesse (Coby Bell), and Michael’s mother – honorary member Madeline (Emmy(R) winner Sharon Gless). As the second half of the series sixth season returns on Thursday, November 8 at 9/8c with a special two-hour premiere, the team is stranded in Panama and desperate to find a way back to Miami.

BURN NOTICE, paired with original drama SUITS, was the most successful block on television this summer attracting more adults 25-54, 18-49 and 18-34 than any other pairing of scripted series.

BURN NOTICE was created, written and executive produced by Matt Nix. Mikkel Bondesen and Alfredo Barrios serve as executive producers. The series comes from Fox Television Studios and Fuse Entertainment.

Fox Television Studios produces scripted and unscripted programming for US broadcast and cable networks, and international broadcasters. The studio produces the hit series Burn Notice and White Collar, both for USA; and the series The Glades for A&E. FTVS also is in production on Graceland, its new series for USA from White Collar creator Jeff Eastin; The Americans for FX, starring Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys, and Maron, a fictionalized look at the life of comedian and podcast sensation Marc Maron, for IFC.

The #1 network in all of basic cable for six consecutive years and an unprecedented seven straight summers, USA Network is seen in over 102 million U.S. homes. USA is a leader in scripted programming with a powerful stable of originals, spectacular live television and is home to the best in blockbuster theatrical films, a broad portfolio of acquired series and entertainment events. A trailblazer in digital innovation and storytelling, USA is defining, driving and setting the industry standard for Social TV. USA is a program service of NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, a division of NBCUniversal. The award-winning website is located at http://www.usanetwork.com. Characters Welcome.

What do you think? Are you glad to hear that Burn Notice has been renewed for a seventh season? Why do you think there will only be 13 episodes? Is this the end?

It’s disappointing that USA would not continue this show. It’s one of the very few shows I watch on TV. It is a show that makes make you care about the characters in a manner that only the best dramas can. I hope they reconsider.

Why cancell a show that has so much potential? Did you – USA get a rating from the public, if the program should be cancell or not? After Burn Notice there is little left to watch. Covert Affair never interest me and White Collar is a bore. I hope Suit and Psych will be on for more than just another season. Otherwise you will be losing business. USA you need to clear the air because from my stand point I believe the Burn Notice cast will want to continue with the production, so what it is?!!! We the public need… Read more »

Boooooooo! Bad decision! Cancel Suits, it hardly stands up to Burn Notice! The only reason Suits watched is because it’s blocked up with Burn Notice! USA, you are making a huge mistake!!!!!!

I, too, am confused and very disappointed to hear that Burn Notice will be ending for good at the end of season 7. This show brought so much excitement to television and interesting chatter to the water cooler. What a sad day season 7/episode 13 will be. USA Network, I hope you have something really good up your sleeve because this show will be tough to beat.

There will be a big void in USA’s line up with the end of Burn Notice. It has always been my favorite show and should be followed up with them in a PI series as fans want to see more of them!

I have watched this show from the beginning and am a faithful fan. I am so disappointed to hear this is the final season. Just wondering why? I am hoping the writers and actors would change their minds and decide to come back to a show that is truly loved. Please do not cancel the show that is loved by so many…heck it’s number one!

Why in the world would USA not continue past seven seasons while it is the #1 performing show.? I have watched it since inception plus all rebroadcasts and enjoy it more than any other show. I just don ‘t understand the total disregard of the public’s obvious loyalty to this show!

Burn Notice is so great, it makes no sense that it’s going to it’s last season. There are still so many story lines for it to pursue. I’m wondering what’s going on with USA Network. With Burn Notice and Psych possibly going off; the only decent shows they’ll have left is Suits and Royal Pains. Covert Affairs wasn’t any good last year, we stopped watching. We quit White Collar several seasons ago, and from what I’ve seen of their new lineup; it looks mundane. The new shows appear to be just like every other cop/mystery show out there. USA grew… Read more »

This is one of the best shows on the air. Why would anyone cancel such a good show. The characters are terrific, especially Michael. They should renew the show for another season.

All the good shows are being taken off – like The Closer, House, Monk and now Burn Notice. What other parts will Jeffrey be n – television or movies — he’s too good to stay off the air

I love Burn Notice and unless the actors want to leave the show then why with the high ratings would USA end the show!!!! It makes no sense what so ever, I do wish that they would conclude the story line with Michaels involvement with the CIA and go back to the team helping the underdogs of Miami there are so many great storylines left to do!!!! Canceling the show now is idiotic this is why people get fed up with tv stations because they tend to make dumb decisions!!!!! And money wise why would you cancel a number 1… Read more »

I am so devastated that USA cancelled Burn Notice after the 7th season.. I wish it was coming back for season 8 PLEASE RENEW if it can not be done than PLEASE have the final episode be epic. I would love to see Mike and Fi together and rebuild his loft to the original take a year or 2 off from working. Sam find that special lady and help him open his own bar. Jessie keep working in Intellangence find someone special and finally find the person who killed his mom. Mattie find some one special and enjoying being a… Read more »
