canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

The Carmichael Show: Cancelled by NBC; No Season Four

by Jessica Pena, June 30, 2017

The Carmichael Show TV show on NBC: (canceled or renewed?)

NBC is saying goodbye to The Carmichael Show. Deadline reports the network has cancelled the TV show after three seasons.

Loosely inspired by the life of star and co-creator Jerrod Carmichael, the comedy follows a North Carolina family that consists of Jerrod (Carmichael), his old-school dad, Joe (David Alan Grier), devout mom, Cynthia (Loretta Devine), progressive girlfriend, Maxine (Amber Stevens West), and brother Bobby (Lil Rel Howery).

NBC confirmed the cancellation of The Carmichael Show after Jerrod Carmichael announced he was leaving the sitcom to pursue other projects:

For three seasons (okay 2.5), I got to make a show that I love with my friends. It’s something I’ve wanted to do since I was 13. Now, I’m excited to go make other things that I love. Thank you to every person who worked on or watched The Carmichael Show.“

Ratings for The Carmichael Show have declined over the past couple seasons. So far, season three is averaging a rating of .78 in the 18-49 demo and 3.681 million viewers, making it one of NBC’s lower-rated series for the 2016-2017 season.

However, despite low ratings, The Carmichael Show earned significant critical praise for its examination of current social and political issues. Nevertheless, is looks like NBC is moving on. The network released a statement regarding the cancellation, thanking the cast and crew of the TV series:

We are enormously proud of The Carmichael Show and Jerrod’s talent and vision to do a classic family sitcom that also taps into issues and relevant stories from the real world. We thank and salute the cast, crew, and producers — and especially Jerrod — for three critically acclaimed seasons.”

What do you think? Are you a fan of The Carmichael Show? Are you sad it’s ending?

My entire family is so unhappy over the cancellation of “The Carmichael Show”! This was one of the funniest shows on television today. Please let me know if there is still time to save this show from going off the air by getting signatures, pickets, or other? Thank you!

I am extremely sad that The Carmichael Show has not been renewed. It was a great show and I enjoyed watching with my family. Yes it was a great show to watch with family and friends. I really wish NBC would reconsider renewing the show. The show had great life stories that were close to life that I know.

BRING BACK THE CARMICHAEL SHOW. The show has been enjoyed for three seasons. Much better than the Marlon show and a few others on NBC.
GREAT JOB Jarod..

I’ve just recently discovered this show (5/2017), and it immediately became my favorite “real” show. I just don’t understand. There aren’t very many real comedies left, and even fewer GREAT comedies! So sad! Just opening another spot for reality garbage. So disappointed!

See Big Tasty’s post below! They spoke so eloquently about the sad cancellation of The Carmichael Show; I agree with their stance. I anxiously waited for their return every summer. I would love another network to discover this jewel and continue producing thoughtful TV.

So sad to see that this show was cancelled☹ Don’t understand how they can cancel shows that have the ability to show this type of genius. It is rare that a show comes along that can tackle very tough real life situations and instill humor without being condecending or disrespectful towards that issue. The only other show that I can remember being in this class of comedy is “All in the Family”. David Alan Grier played an awesome pseudo Archie Bunker. The Carmichael Show follows very closely to that model and we all know how well that show did. The… Read more »

LOVE, love love this show! So funny! Hate to see it go. Comedy shows are SO lacking anymore. This fills that bill. Hope another network picks it up. NBC sucks!

This show was trash!!! i watched a couple of episodes, desperately seeking comedy to watch. When i finished watching, i was still DESPERATELY seeking comedy to watch!! felt pain after watching one episode!!! That said, i love Lil Rel Howery. he needs his own show. i hope he gets it.

What a bummer. This is one of my favorite shows. Funny and bold, unlike any other show on TV. I hope he brings it to another network.

Another black sitcom that kicks the ass of every other sitcom on the air cancelled because it’s talking truthfully in a pure genius form. Mr. Carmichael is changing the way white america sees what’s true… that’s why their shutting it down.

Except in the ratings. The ratings got worse every season. However, they could have waited until the end of the season to cancel it, and see if the ratings went up.
