Deadline reports Stana Katic and Tamala Jones are both leaving the Castle TV series on ABC, after the current, eighth season. Does this mean Castle will be cancelled? Not yet, but maybe soon. According to Deadline, it is likely ABC will renew Castle for a shortened ninth season. Will it be the last?
Reportedly, Nathan Fillion and the network are currently talking about renewing his contract. Deadline‘s Nellie Andreeva says both the network and ABC Studios are behind the decision to write off Katic’s Detective Kate Beckett. Per Deadline, the co-star was never approached about re-upping. According to the story, she and Jones, who has played Lanie Parish since the series premiered, are both being let go for “budgetary” reasons.

Katic would not comment on the circumstances surrounding her exit. When asked about the departure, she told Deadline, “Rather then distract from what was an amazing experience, I would just like to say that I’m very grateful to ABC for giving me the opportunity to be a part of a much beloved show. Thank you to the fans.”
Since Castle has not been renewed, ABC would not comment on any plans for the length of the potential Season 9 but confirmed to Deadline that Katic and Jones won’t be part of it.
“Kate Beckett has been a beloved character on our hit series Castle for the past 8 years. We are grateful for Stana Katic’s talent and dedication to the series and we hope to continue our relationship,” ABC said in a statement to Deadline. “Tamala Jones has also been an integral part of the series and we are grateful she was a part of Castle.“

Jones played the whip-smart medical examiner Lanie Parish who was Beckett’s close friend and confidante. “I’ve had so much fun playing the wonderful and unfiltered Lanie over the past eight seasons,” Jones said in a statement to Deadline. “I will greatly miss the cast and crew – it’s been a privilege getting to work with this incredibly hard working group of people. Thank you to ABC for this opportunity and to the fans for their unwavering support. It’s been an incredible journey and I can’t wait for what lies ahead!”
While the series is called Castle, Beckett’s character has been as prominent on the show, which evolved into a two-lead Moonlighting-style comedic drama. Castle creator Andrew Marlowe had always called the Castle/Beckett relationship central to the concept of the series.

I think castle should be cancelled there’s no better couple then castle and Beckett and if you put a nineth season without them I will not be watching so cancel it please
What was ABC thinking by not keeping Katic and Jones??? But, having said that, I would have still watched, love the cast. Definitely my favorite show on ABC!
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at ABC after the way the absolutely horrible way they handled Michael Strahan leaving Live with Kelly & Michael. Betrayal to Kelly in the worst way!!!!! Put Michael in the worst possible position.
After all this, not finding it hard to not watch ABC!
I hope someone does something to ABC cause they discriminate against stana and tamala stana made the show I don’t care if it was called castle.she had the hardest job she was always out on the streets hunting for killers there would of been no castle without stana always
This was one of the best shows on tv on a network that does not have many shows worth watching. I will truly miss Castle its been one of my favorites for the past eight years. Castle you will be missed. Thank you!
There’s no Castle without Beckett. It’s mostly about their relationship as well as her cop-like views vs. his rather far-fetched ideas. If she doesn’t come back, neither do I…and this was one of my favs!

I love Castle!! Yes I would still watch without Becket as long as his mom and daughter are still on the show they are my favorites. Yes I love Beckett but they haven’t been together much lately anyway!
Would love to see the show continue with the full cast, but would still watch Castle, P.I., with as many of the cast members as possible!
While it is called Castle, the heart has always been the relationship btwn Castle and Beckett. I would not watch a season without Beckett, especially after hearing the rumors that in real life Fillion treated Katic so badley.
So sad and I will not be following after they tear them apart again.

I will not be watching Castle without Stana in the show. I love the interaction between Beckett and Castle. You are ruining the show by removing her. It’s too bad because I also love Nathan.
I love castle with the same stars it would break my heart for Nathan Fallon to leave castle. have both main stars work it out and get along like adults.
It is the interplay between Beckett and Castle that makes the show. The plot is secondary. I also do enjoy Lanie (Tamala). It is so refreshing to see two women with roles exuding intelligence and charm in a series. What a sad state of affairs.
A very sad state of affairs they are letting the female lead over “financial” concerns. They are also letting the other female on the show get pushed off the show. This whole situation smacks of the rampant sexism that has gotten worse in the Industry.
These producers are cowards and unimaginative of they can’t work the story line and money situation out. Maybe the producers could take a pay cut.
It will be a shame that this show is going out this way, there will be no way to go on with it without Beckett, her and Castle made the show
