It looks like Cristela Hernandez has a bright future ahead of her — unfortunately the same can’t be said for the Cristela TV show. ABC has cancelled the sitcom after one season of 22 episodes.
On Cristela, a young Mexican-American woman (Cristela Alonzo) works to become an attorney while juggling her responsibilities to her traditional family. The rest of the cast includes Maria Canals-Barrera, Carlos Ponce, Terri Hoyos, Gabriel Iglesias, Sam McMurray, Justine Lupe, and Andrew Leeds.
The sitcom debuted in October 2015 and attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.5 million viewers. That was a decent start for a Friday night show but the ratings lost quite a bit of steam over the course of the season, falling as low as a 0.8 demo rating with 4.1 million viewers.
Those numbers weren’t good enough to mandate a second season so ABC has decided to cancel Cristela instead. The final episode aired on April 17th.

One of the best shows in a while! We looked forward to Cristela every Friday. Seems like the shows we like are always canceled. Don’t they realize there’s more markets out there???
Cristella should have been renewed not canceled. ABC always cancels good shows.

I thought it was the “smartest,” funniest comedy around. I am 58 years old – and a white chick despite my hispanic last name. Cristella was an AMAZINGLY funny way to spend thirty minutes. The topics were great – the gender issues and minority issues were topical. The show was very well done. The actors and their performances were top of the television food chain for contemporary comedies. So sad it has been cancelled. I agree with all the other posts. Bummer. Really big bummer. I’ll have to go out and get a Friday night life now. For real.
Such sadness that Cristela will not longer have her show on Fridays, it was the best, my father is 87 would have conversations afterwards and could see the likeness in our family. for our family, it was a night to be together and share stories. When I mean family, it was brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts and uncles coming over to watch it. Sorry to see it go. I again the TV show “Fresh off the Boat” has nothing to offer. Cristela go to a Spanish Station, but, that would defeat the purpose. You will be sadly miessed
We need to boycott the abc exec. Also I’m hoping that , a Spanish station picks them up. Hoping WAPA picks them up
My husband and I look forward every Friday evening to watch Cristela. Its fun for the whole family to watch and enjoy. I don’t understand why its cancelled this are the type of show they should aired for family to watch it give us feed back about our culture and who we are and how we should teach our children the right way at home and love them everyday,especially family. We will miss them dearly hope they will come back soon….

Well I don’t speak Spanish so if it went to one of those channels I wouldnt get to see it.
I can’t believe how stupid ABC execs are??? Are you the same guys that invested in the DeLorean???? or Madoff????? This is a great show and a latino show at that.Maybe you should rethink that idea. Cancel a great show!!!!!!!!!! Duh.
Oh No!!! We are a 70 year old couple who just loved this show. Cristela was absolute fun and she is a real treat along with all the others. AhhMa was one of the best Mom’s ever on a TV show with her witty, sarcastic humor. Please don’t take them away!! We seniors enjoy humor and Cristela . I liked this show which is rare for a comedy these days. I thought the cast was great and even enjoyed Rosanne’s guest appearances. I liked it better than Blackish which gets too ridiculous for me and Fresh off the Boat. The time slot it got was terrible. Sorry to see it go. It seems like all people want is low brow/ridiculously silly humor that’s not funny just insulting to the viewer’s intelligence.

Sure, I FINALLY get invested in this show, and SHOCKER!!!! It gets canceled. The show grew on me, kind of like Cheers and Growing Pains did back in the 80’s. The sad part is, the show was actually pretty well done.
I’m so sad they cancelled this show I never watch T.V. that’s the only show I used to watch.
