canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

CSI: Miami: Cancelled by CBS, No Season 11

by Trevor Kimball, May 13, 2012

csimiami21After 10 seasons, it’s time for David Caruso to turn in his sunglasses. CBS has cancelled CSI: Miami, the first show in the CSI franchise to end.

Starting in 2002, the TV series follows a South Florida team of forensic investigators who often use advanced scientific methods to solve crimes. The current cast includes Caruso, Adam Rodriguez, Emily Procter, Eva La Rue, Jonathan Togo, Omar Benson Miller, and Rex Linn.

The ratings for CSI: Miami have declined over the years. Season 10 averaged a 2.1 in the coveted 18-49 demographic with 9.85 million total viewers. That was down from season nine by 13% in the demo (vs a 2.4 rating) and down by 5% in viewership (vs 10.39 million).

While the cop show’s overall viewership is still impressive, advertisers want shows that cater to the demo audience and the network has many shows that attract big overall audiences.

Should CSI: NY have been cancelled instead?

What’s more, after 10 seasons on the air, CSI: Miami is no doubt very expensive to produce and there are already 232 episodes, more than enough to keep running in syndication for many years.

Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment, suggested that one of the CSI shows might be cancelled this month. The original CSI was already renewed so it was a guessing game to see if Miami or NY would bite the bullet. CSI: NY has reportedly been renewed for season nine.

Of the cancellation news, CBS released the following statement:

CSI: Miami leaves an amazing television legacy – a signature look and style, global popularity and as a key player in CBS’s rise to the top over the past decade. We thank all the producers – led by Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and Ann Donahue — and its talented cast, led by David Caruso, for 10 outstanding seasons. Viewers around the world will continue to enjoy rebroadcasts of CSI: Miami in syndication and on key digital platforms for many years to come.

What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that CSI: Miami has been cancelled? Will you miss the show? Was it time for it end or would you have liked to have seen an 11th season?

I think they should stop cancelling shows and perhaps cancel whomever is in charge of scheduling air times. Why these networks that have the Football games air serious shows on Sunday evening while knowing most people cannot stay up to watch as the games are always off schedule, even DVR’s cannot record unless you have the option to extend recording times. Perhaps they should cancel pre and post game shows, who needs to re-cap what you just viewed, are we that simple minded that we need over paid sports announcers explaining what we just watched for 3-4 hours?? Or do… Read more »

A few years ago, I would have been horribly disappointed at this decision. But they changed the show to a terrible parody of itself in the later years. Horatio Caine became at times a mercenary, and a character who was always impervious to any harm. When they shot up his hummer with that gun that could shoot 100 bullets simultaneously and it burst into flame and he emerged unscathed without so much as soot on his shirt, it had finally jumped the shark. The crimes became so bizarre and unbelievable and the characters became so unbelievable, that it was no… Read more »

Csi episodes are so un-believably unrealistic…how many forensic teams drive around in hummers and wear suits? Forensics is the least glamorous job in any agency…. good riddins….ps…charlie sheen destroyed 2 and a half men….i say out with the old and in with the new…just wish allan could get ahead a little… and why lock ashton in a relationship already?? Seems boring…

It is a TV show- are you really having expectations of a tv show being unrealistic?? I suppose honey boo boo is more realistic as well as all the other “scripted” reality shows that feed us mindless junk. Bill Crosby actually has stated he is happy that he is 83 and on his way out. The coveted 18-49 demo that advertisers want are unrealistic. Todays families consist of children 18-32 still living at home with parents and parents are still the “buyers” of the wants of these kids. Although it is not thier fault, due to economy and unemployment rates,… Read more »

Overreact, much? They can’t bring back Charlie. The reality of it is that no JOB, and that’s what it is, can afford to have an employee/worker who they constantly have to work around because of drug and alcohol problems, and major attitude problems.

Since NCIS is the number 1 show on CBS averaging around 20 million viewers fat chance of it getting cancelled.

There is no such show as NCSI. Maybe you mean NCIS? Seriously, now, you can’t expect them to cancel their highest rated show? What kind of business decision would that be?

Because the Execs are morons and air the good shows on Sunday!!!!!!!!!
Now “The mentalist” is on Sunday, guess they will cancel that next year when people cannot stay up late to watch that either. Cancel the idiots that do program scheduling.
The coveted “18-49” demo like to enjoy games and have a few beers, so they are not interested in any “Dramas’ that are on later.

This sucks big time! I loved the show and I think that it would have had more viewers if every other Sunday was not getting cut off by a Football game. I am going to really miss this show plus NY one does not grab my attention at all. Really dont know what they were thinking, but I hope the cast is okay and I pray for the future jobs.

I hate that the show has been cancelled. I was a huge fan of CSI Miami and loved it and NY much more than the original once they made the cast changes.
