As you may recall, ABC recently announced that they were reworking their Wednesday night schedule (in preparation for the return of Fox’s American Idol). That left fans of Day Break out in the cold as the Taye Diggs series would be pulled from the schedule after the December 27th episode had aired. There was some hope and speculation that the series would be moved to another night. We now know that’s not going to happen.
The Lost-replacing series Day Break has been pulled from the schedule even earlier than expected. The ratings for Day Break have continued to fall since its debut and the latest was no exception. The sixth episode, entitle “What If They Find Him,” attracted only 3.1 million households. As a result, ABC has yanked the drama effective immediately. Repeats of George Lopez and According to Jim will fill 8-10pm Wednesdays for the next two weeks (both sitcoms begin new seasons in January on Wednesday nights).
There are seven unaired episodes and, as of now, there are no plans to air them on the network (joining fellow dramas The Nine and Six Degrees). The good news is that ABC has said they will post the remaining episodes online, with a new episode being posted every Thursday for the next seven weeks. They may decide to release the episodes for purchase online via iTunes but I’m guessing that will have a lot to do with viewer demand.
How can you cut off such a good show. I could hardly wait a week to see the next episode. I dont understand how you can cancel this show and not those extremely dumb shows like desperate house wives. Ive saw that you will still have the shows online but cant find it nowhere I have to type in the title of the show just to find anything on this website.
Daybreak was fresh and entertaining and kept me in suspense for what was going to happen next. Several weeks of a new show is not enough time to give it a chance for other viewers to catch on and word of mouth to spread of how great it was. I also looked for it on Dec. 20th and 27th just to find unintersting sitcoms that I don’t ever watch and never will.
They need to bring Daybreak back–sounds like there is a lot of support and interest in the show!
I also liked Invasion which ABC also abrubtly pulled.
I literally rushed home after an evening-out dinner to see the next episode of Daybreak and – guess what!! No episode. I’m standing in my living room thinking: a George Lopez re-run! I scan the schedule. No, it’s not coming on later. It’s not coming on at all! One of the reasons I specifically committed to watching Daybreak, which is a great show by the way, is it promised to wind up by the 13th week, unlike LOST, which is so open-ended it is beyond annoying. Why am I not supposed to be upset with ABC?
Day Break gone, Ugly Betty still here? And how many times are they going to move Men In Trees? At least Day Break was exciting, Ugly Betty is just stupid, I watched it twice, and Men In Trees, Never! Come on ABC, WAKE UP. Do you really need to have “billions” and “billions” of viewers watching a show to make it great? Can’t you at least let shows air till the end so we get an answer?
An intelligent, suspenseful show with an interesting concept. A shame that it was given the chance to gain popularity.
i don’t live in the US, and i download the show every week. it’s really great! i enjoyed very much and now it’s gone 🙁
The show was very interesting and thrilling. the only other show of this level is heroes or lost.. HUGE mistake by ABC.
I am one of them many disappointed viewers ABC left hanging. I have to be honest that Daybreak wasn’t the immediate captivator but I grew attached to the various personalities and novelty of the plot as the episodes aired. I’ve been waiting since last week to catch the newest episode online since I knew I will not be able to watch it on television but now I am quite agitated that the show will be taken off entirely. WHYYYY not give the show a little more time. Day Break has great potential, the suspense really engages the viewer to feel… Read more »
I honestly hate to bring race up in this conversation, but would it kill a major network to stick their neck’s out for ONE, just ONE show that features a black-man as the main-character and a host of other ethnic characters on MAJOR NETWORK TV? Daybreak was a great show that actually challenged viewers unlike “Lost” which gets more retarded each episode…Obviously we’re all nutcases that can’t appreciate a program that has a relatively innovative dynamic,so we gotta watch brilliant stuff like According to Jim that is merely the 1000th re-incarnation of “The HoneyMooners” Sometimes I wish there was no… Read more »
This was a great show … I am not able to find any of the episodes on ABC or anywhere else … we were not able to watch the last two episodes because of holiday visits from out-of-town family … we at least want to see the 20th & 27th (if they even were aired) … any updates for on-line access to episodes?
I loved this show. I am very unhappy that ABC dropped it. I also liked the nine and six degrees. I will not be watching any new shows on ABC, since I have no control over the ratings.
It seems more and more stations are cancelling shows like this.I used to watch Vanished on Fox and they did the same thing.I am done watching these types of shows. If ABC or Fox has a series that hits dvd maybe I’ll think about it.
I agree with everyone else’s post. Day Break was a very good show. I am an avid Lost viewer and I even thought that Day Break was better than Lost. I also wonder why they didn’t move the show to another night. I can’t believe ABC pulled such a quality show, but they left “The Big Day” on. Come on, that show is absolutely awful. I do hope that they at least make the complete season of Day Break available on iTUnes or DVD for purchase because I will definitely buy it. Viewers who got into the show really deserve… Read more »
I was very disappointed to learn that Day Break was being cancelled. I thought the premise for the show was unique and compelling which is rare for a new show, especially a replacement show. It’s not hard to imagine what will happen to the ratings of the rest of ABC’s shows if they continue to pull the really good ones like Day Break. Please bring this excellent show back! This was a great story with a terrific cast. It really deserves a second chance!!
What a waste of a GREAT show!
This was a great show with an excellent cast. Why you could not move it to another night makes no sense.
Why don’t you let a cable network buy the remaining episodes and the rights. I’m sure it can find an audience with a good time slot and some advertising…. What is going on at ABC is the real mystery.
GIVE ME A BREAK ABC!!!!
Bring Day Break back or sell the rights to a cable channel to keep it going.
I can not believe that you all cancelled this show. I raced home every Wed. night just to see this program. I am truly disappointed with ABC. Actually this is the only show on ABC that I watch. Who made the decision to cancell, seems to me that I am not the only disappointed viewer. The poweres that be really need to reconsider their decision to cancel a great show in mid-season.
