Dollhouse: Eliza Dushku Tweets about Cancellation; “Whedon Smackdown” Coming

by Trevor Kimball, November 13, 2009

DollhouseThough the news of Dollhouse’s cancellation spread like wildfire on Wednesday, actress Eliza Dushku confirmed the decision yesterday saying, “Hear it here. Hey, that’s really why I started [on] twitter, the rumors/news IS true: Dollhouse will not cont. past these 13 eps”

She followed that up with a note of appreciation to the show’s fans and wrote, “BUT… There’s always a but… I can’t express enough — this has been one of the MOST rewarding experiences of my career. Thank you guys!”

Meanwhile, actress and Dollhouse writer Maurissa Tancharoen shared a photo of her post-cancellation and fatty-food lunch with writer Jed Whedon and actors Enver Gjokaj and Fran Kranz.

The last episode of Dollhouse is scheduled to air on January 22nd and, as Mo Ryan notes, that evening may offer a tough decision for fans of the Joss Whedon universe.

On that same night, Caprica, the Battlestar Galactica prequel series, will debut. Jane Espenson, a veteran of Dollhouse and many other Whedon projects, is one of the executive producers. Then over on Starz, Spartacus: Blood and Sand kicks off. Another Whedon scribe, Steven S. DeKnight, is an executive producer on that show.

What do you think? Which of the three shows are you more likely to watch on January 22nd? Dollhouse, Caprica, or Spartacus? Is it a hard choice?

HOW did this piece of **** get 2 seasons while my beloved and better crafted My Own Worst Enemy get canceled after 9 episodes on a cliffhangar? MOWE was 10x the show this was. even 3 years later Im still hurting from that.

Dollhouse was a pretty weak outing as far as Whedon projects are concerned. I’ve seen a lot of “you just need to give it a chance” comments, indicating that it’d pick up steam and having done just that, found that it didn’t really gain much in the last ditch writing efforts. Even the second epitaph, though a fitting way to end it, seemed to lack a good amount of anything truly interesting which left me a bit disappointed overall. Part of me wants to believe Whedon can recapture the magic without retreading but I’m really starting to think his days… Read more »

I would watch Dollhouse for sure. I hate to see it go, but that’s the reality of television; good shows like Dollhouse get the boot, while other less worthy shows stay on the air for way longer than they should. I agree, Sci-fi should pick it up. It’s the perfect show for that channel. We’ll see what happens. Who’s knows, they make it into a movie like they did Firefly.

I don’t understand why the Sci-fi channel is not picking this series up!?!?! It is a perfect venue for this show and would be able to develop an even larger following. They have no problem airing Serenity and obviously like Joss Whedon’s work so get your a$$ in gear Sci-Fi and save our show, maybe you will develop loyal followers like Joss.

I will watch Dollhouse, even though I’m almost certainly going to buy the DVD as well. Together with the late lamented Sarah Connor Chronicles, these were two of the best shows ever for SF fans. The cast of Dollhouse (are you a jinx, Summer Glau? We love you anyway) was phenomenal.
This is not to say I don’t care for Caprica, the pilot of which was also spectacular, but I’m sure it’ll be re-run, or available on Hulu. As for Spartacus–first I ever heard of it. I’ll wait to see what reviews it gets.
