ABC’s had mixed success with their new shows this year, but what about Downward Dog? The TV show just premiered in May and we want to know if you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season.
Based on the web series of the same name, the comedy follows the day-to-day life of Nan (Allison Tolman), as told by her increasingly lonely and philosophical dog, Martin (voiced by Samm Hodges). The cast also includes Lucas Neff, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Barry Rothbart, Siovhan Christensen, Ayden Mayeri, and Andrew Gorell.
Downward Dog has brought in pretty poor ratings for ABC so far. Currently, the sitcom is earning an average rating of 0.87 in the 18-49 demo and 4.40 million viewers. The network held the comedy until very late in the season and produced just eight episodes — likely signs that ABC doesn’t have a lot of faith in the show.
However, even with falling ratings, does Downward Dog deserve a second chance in your book? What do you think? Should ABC renew this canine comedy or cancel it?
6/24 update: ABC has cancelled the Downward Dog TV show after one season. Details here.
I love this show! It’s funny and it’s real. I would definitely watch the second season
Yes would watch season 2. It is so funny
This is the best new show in a long time. Please renew for another season.
I absolutely LOVE this show look forward to it every week you have to keep it
Yes definitely renew this show!!! Its the funniest, most endearing show Ive ever seen. I find myself laughing out loud sometimes and not many other comedy shows do that for me. Thanks ABC for giving us such an entertaining show!!!!! Please bring back Season Two.
Love this show always puts a smile on my face please renew
I like this show! It’s cute, and seems realistic from what a dog might think. The only think I struggle with is the dog’s surfer, SOCal voice. I really struggle with it. And that’s the reason my sister won’t watch it. The dog is adorable… perfect. The dog should have an East coast accent, but not an obnoxious one. Or just a nice voice. This current one is just bad, and I think it could be hurting ratings.
I agree, I love Nan and the dog is perfect EXCEPT for that voice. It’s the main reason I don’t like this show. If I wanted to, like, hear the word like, like, 50 times a minute, I’d, like, listen to some, like, stupid teenagers or, like, something. Ya know? Ugh.
So its the grammar, not the voice for you,ok.
East Coast accent? the show takes place in Pittsburgh PA and its a melting pot, so the voice the show came up with is perfect
Please please please keep this show. I love it and will definitely keep watching. It delivers a great message. And yes dogs are human too. And we learn so much from them.
Yes!!! Love this show!!
I LOVE this show. I usually hate half-hour comedies, but this one is touching
AND funny and has a positive message for everyone. PLEASE renew this show!
I love and live with dogs. I half-hate this show. I have given it four episodes, and last night I canceled the series recording order.
Nan barely engages with her dog, and I cannot believe their relationship as depicted from either viewpoint. In the earliest episodes, Nan’s treatment of Martin is abusive and neglectful .
The dog is gorgeous.
Alas, the annoying voice of Martin makes me insane. I hate the cadence, the filler, speech tags, and the content.
Cancel this show!!
(The yoga reference in the title has no reference, which also annoys me)
The world needs this feel-good show right now. And forever.
This is such a feel-good show, The world needs this right now – forever.
ABC will continue the total and complete amoral lack of viewer regard or respect for what any of them may truly like or want to watch by continuing to renew only the series promoting the non-traditional family, left slanted, any and every thing goes, liberal based agenda so representative of the media’s ever increasing intolerant anticonservative rants & crazed phobic war waged against everything and anyone with the mere appearance of or mildly referencing or suggesting the existence of let alone daring to supportive of anything even potentially viewed as traditional, Christian, conservative or even right of left family viewpoints… Read more »
Your review which was just one run-on sentence made no sense.
this is a fabulous comedy and has us in tears as well. Its a relief to have such clean humor, kids can watch it as well. Martin is such an intellect!!!! Nan has a heart of gold, Jason is adorably sweet and the others are fabulous as well. please renew this wonderful show for another season and keep it going!!!!
