canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Drive: FOX Series Cancelled But Will Return

by Trevor Kimball, May 8, 2007

The cast of Drive on FOXFOX pulled the Tim Minear action series Drive off the air after only two weeks and four episodes due to low ratings. The network had given the series a truckload of promotion but, for whatever reason, the series didn’t catch on — at least as quickly as FOX would have liked. Would the series ever return?

FOX has announced that Drive will be returning to primetime. Unfortunately it will be a one-time event. The network will run the unaired fifth and sixth episodes of Drive on July 4th — one of the least-watched nights of regular television. They’re also calling them the “final episodes” which means the show has indeed been cancelled and viewers have no chance of ever seeing the race’s conclusion.

True fans might want to visit the Tim Minear website where they can read the scripts of the first four episodes of Drive. But beware of spoilers — due to some editing changes, some scenes in the episodes three and four scripts were shifted to appear in later episodes. Maybe we’ll get lucky and the site will post scripts for unfilmed episodes sometime in the future. Stay tuned! TV Series Finale home page

Update: The episodes have since been rescheduled to air on Friday, July 13th.

I loved Drive, it was a exciting show and I would plan my whole night about it. Since I Love New York & Wildfire ened their seasons I’ve been looking for something to watch monday nights. And I decided I was going to watch Drive @ 8, and start watching Heros again @ 9. I hate fox they stay cancelling them good shows. It reminds me of the time they cancelled Tru Calling, that was one of my fav shows ever!! Anyway bring back Drive , that show was bangin’!!!

First, I liked Drive and made a point of telling people to watch the show.
Second, wasn’t Drive just holding the spot for Prison Break till it comes back in the fall.
And Third, I’d rather watch an entertaining new show like Drive, than a rerun of House. I like House but once I’ve seen it, I’ve seen it.
And Last, as far as demografics are concerned, I’m a grandfather of 8 in my mid 50’s.

I guess Prison Break and 24 were so successful that now nothing else quite measures up.

I THINK YOU SHOULD RETHINK YOUR DECISION ON TAKING THIS OFF THE AIR, THIS IS LIKE WATCHING A GOOD MOVIE AND THE CD STOPS IN THE MIDDLE OF IT. I THINK THERE ARE ALOT MORE PEOPLE WATCHING DRIVE THEN YOU THINK THERE ARE. I THINK I WILL BOYCOT NBC ON ANY OTHER FUTURE SHOWS. WHY WATCH SOMETHING WHEN NBC MIGHT TAKE IT OFF THE AIR. PUT IT BACK ON THE AIR.

With a high enough ratings for these episodes, Fox may consider writing a brand new contract.

Please Watch Drive July 4th, 2008 at 8pm on Fox.

See official Drive website: http://www.fox.com/Drive/

Well, they did change the lead for the better.

But Fox is a dying network, if something doesn’t show a profit before the first add break they cancel it – presumably they are desperate for money and can’t take the months/years it can take to build something up.

Soon Fox will be cancled.

FOX never, I repeat, never give a series a chance. I’m still hurting from the canceled Firefly (with Nathan Fillion)…Drive had potential…if given enough TIME for folks to FIND it! I’ve decided to NOT watch any new FOX shows because I hate getting hooked & then being ‘stabbed in the back with cancelation’. Thanks for at least letting us see the last 2 episodes!

Well it makes perfect sense that they would show them July 4. First they made them slash the budget considerably, then change the lead, then made them reshoot the show with almost no time to spare. They then targeted the advertising at audiences that largely don’t watch these type of shows with quickly edited together footage that no longer even existed in the series. They then debut it on a weekend and put its first episodes up against the biggest established show on the first night, and then put it on a day that they target demographic for this type… Read more »
