Eastwick: ABC TV Show Cancelled, No Season Two

by Trevor Kimball, November 9, 2009

Eastwick canceledIt looks like the magic is over for the three ladies of Eastwick. ABC network has decided against ordering any additional episodes of the supernatural series, effectively cancelling it.

Eastwick revolves around three women (Rebecca Romijn, Lindsay Price, and Jaime Ray Newman) who meet at a wishing fountain and become friends. Soonafter, mysterious Darryl Van Horne (Paul Gross) moves to town and unleashes powers within the ladies. The cast also includes Ashley Benson, Johann Urb, Jon Bernthal, Sara Rue, and Veronica Cartwright.

The show got off to a slow start on September 23rd with a 3.0 rating in the 18-49 demo and 8.5 million total viewers. The second installment fell to a 2.3 in the demo and 6.57 million viewers. The third week fell again to a 1.8 and 5.14 million.

Why was Eastwick cancelled?

In the weeks that followed, the ratings didn’t get any better and more frequently got worse. Last week, Eastwick hit an all-time low of 1.5 in the demo and 4.4 million.

ABC has opted to pull the show from the schedule for two weeks. This Wednesday, it’s replaced by the Country Music Awards. Next week, it’s being bumped for an interview special called In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: Janet Jackson. Though Eastwick is scheduled to return on Thanksgiving eve with a new episode, the supernatural drama won’t be around for long after that.

TV show supportABC has decided not to order any additional episodes of Eastwick, effectively cancelling the series after 13 episodes. It’s unknown if the last episode will wrap up the ongoing storylines. For now, ABC plans to air all six remaining installments but, if the ratings keep declining, the network could easily pull the series before that happens.

What do you think? Why did Eastwick fail? Do you think ABC will really air all of the 13 episodes?

I liked the show the first week, but quit watching after the second episode. I could see that it was going to be a soap opera type of show and never turned back!! the show sucked, good riddance.

ABC stands for Already Been Cancelled. Is ridiculus when season after season of really good shows get cancelled. How about changing day/time. Just as soon as we (viewers) get interested in a series it gets cancelled. Ever think that possibly we need time to decide if we really enjoy the series or not.

This show could have been great, but it’s just a bunch of sleeping around, screeching women, and bad acting. It’s time to give up the ghost.

I don’t think ABC will reconsider this. They didn’t even advertise Eastwick that much. Try going to CW’s website and let them know your feelings on this show. Hopefully, CW will pick it up. I’m sure they know this show is going to be a hit, if given a chance.

I am sooo upset.. every year I start watching a few new shows and my favorite always gets cancelled.. October Road, Swingtown, now Eastwick… Is there any sort of petition we can sign? Jericho was almost saved with viewers sending in Peanuts.. Can we send in something? I LOVED Eastwick!

COOL! Hopefully, this means Tess (Jaime Ray Newman) will be returning to EUREKA next season!

After MOONLIGHT, I’ve learned, the hard way, not to get too attached to TV shows. I absolutely give them a chance and follow along, but never invest enough emotion in them to call one, especially a new one, “my favorite” ever again. I regularly watch Eastwick and will miss it, but as usual, once I watch more than a couple of episodes, a new show ends up on the chopping block.

Well, there goes another good one. I’ll miss it because there was a lot of good acting and fun writing in this show practically every week. I understand the need for viewers but, c’mon, at least try a different timeslot first.

Im confident that ABC will air all 13 Eastwick but the series wasnt in the best timeslot. Wednesdays at 10 is where most ABC series fail since 2005. Had B&S not been airing after Desperate Housewives, Eastwick could have aired in that slot and would have likely been given a full year.

I’m mad as hell they’re canceling the show! I really enjoyed the plot, the characters, and just everything about the show. I really thought it was a great twist to the the orginal movie, starring Jack Nichloson and Cher. I say bring back all the season 1 episodes and let the viewer’s vote on wether or not there’s a season 2!

OMG NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Not that the show is as great as it could be (too much action, way too fast), but there is so much potential here. I really like Rebecca Romijn and Paul Gross’ chemistry. Not to mention Paul’s voice when he gets seductive. (purrrrrrrrrr) But again, the plot lines are moving at such a fast pace that it feels like the writers are trying to stuff every good and stupid idea they had into 13 eps. I feel like I’m watching Ursian Bolt vs Donovan Bailey in a 100 meter dash after every episode. It’s not like Desperate Housewives,… Read more »

They will probably keep burning these off through December as a placeholder, because what have they got to lose around the holidays anyway, and then put Lost on Wednesdays at 10pm when it returns in January, thus allowing their comedy block to remain intact from 8-10pm.
