It was goodbye for The Good Wife last night as CBS aired the legal drama’s series finale. Creators Robert and Michelle King recently explained their decisions behind the final episode in a new video interview.
The Good Wife starred Julianna Margulies as Alicia Florrick, a lawyer who returns to work after her husband (Chris Noth) is jailed for corruption. Matt Czuchry, Christina Baranski, and Alan Cumming also starred.
[SPOILER WARNING!] Discussing the final episode, the Kings said it was always the plan to have Alicia turn into a more cunning and powerful woman:
To talk about the end of the series is probably to talk about the beginning of the series, because we start it with this feeling that it should begin with a slap and end with a slap. The show is about a woman who becomes more and more confident and more and more cunning and excited about her abilities and also about power, so that slap at the end is very similar to that slap at the beginning. We always had this idea of Alicia becoming more and more of something she was not liking in her husband.”

What do you think? Did you watch The Good Wife finale? Do you think Alicia deserved that slap?
Worse ending ever. We the viewers deserved better from CBS. After seven years absolutely no closure. I’m almost afraid of watching other shows on this network.
That was the worst series finale I’ve ever watched! Hated it! They HAVE to bring back The Good Wife to finish so many unanswered & open-ended questions the writers left off! I’m highly disappointed in their supposedly “creative” way of trying to finish it off. Get real! Bring it back! Boo!!!
I did watch it, and all the episodes leading up to it. I’m disappointed in where it left off. “Season” ender’s where everyone’s life is in turmoil are fine, I get that you need to get people to tune back in next season, but on “Series Finale’s”, there should be some closure, where everyone has a clear path into the future. We stuck around for SEVEN Years. We Deserved a happy ending, or at least some closure. Leaving each and every character in turmoil, with ruined careers and lives, not to mention unanswered questions, is just a slap in the… Read more »
Ending was one of the worst I’ve ever seen. Waste of film.
Yes, she deserved the slap, but it was still a disappointing ending.
Also disappointed it has ended, lots of storylines left. Why cancel – I have not yet hear WHY.
Poor ratings and it had run its course.
Yes, Alicia deserved the slap, but I thought the ending was a total let down. If she decided for her new boyfriend, did he wait for her or did he leave her? After seven seasons, we deserved an answer!
