Guilt and Beyond: ABC Family/Freeform Orders 2 Dramas

by Cindy McLennan, November 6, 2015

Guilt and Beyond: ABC Family/Freeform TV orders two new scripted dramas

ABC Family, which becomes Freeform as of January 2016, has ordered two new scripted dramas to series. Created and executive-produced by Kathryn Price and Nichole Millard, Guilt is a one-hour soapy mystery about an American woman who becomes a suspect in the murder of her London roommate.

Beyond is a supernatural drama that focuses on a man who wakes with supernatural powers, after a dozen years in a coma. The fantasy drama is created, written, and executive produced by Adam Nussdorf. Tim Kring, Zak Kadison, Justin Levy, and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones will serve as Executive Producers. Continue on for more details.

Here’s the press release:

ABC FAMILY GIVES SERIES ORDERS TO SCRIPTED DRAMAS “GUILT” AND “BEYOND”

“Guilt” Is a Co-Production of Sea to Sky Entertainment (the joint venture between Lionsgate Television and Thunderbird Films)

Burbank, CA (November 5, 2015) – ABC Family delivers on its promise to increase its original programming slate by picking up two new scripted dramas, “Guilt” and “Beyond,” to series, announced today by Karey Burke, Executive Vice President, Programming and Development, ABC Family. These series join recently announced pickups of a fifth season for “Switched at Birth,” a season 2 pickup for “Monica the Medium” and drama pilot “Famous in Love.” ABC Family is becoming Freeform in January 2016.

“These two shows are an exciting part of our evolution into Freeform,” said Burke. “‘Guilt’ is a sexy, sophisticated event series whose European location feels bigger than anything we have ever done. ‘Beyond’ introduces our audience to a new hero and takes them into a complex supernatural universe with great suspense and deep emotion.”

“Guilt” is a one-hour soapy drama about a young American woman in London who becomes the prime suspect in the savage murder of her roommate. As the investigation unfolds, viewers will question whether she’s a naïve, young girl whose poor decisions are being magnified under the ruthless glare of the British tabloids, or whether she’s a sociopath who brutally murdered her friend. Even her sister, who comes to London to defend her, will question how well she knows her little sister as more and more ugly truths come out. This mystery will twist through all layers of London society – from a posh but depraved sex club, all the way up to the Royal Family itself. “Guilt” is written, created and executive-produced by Kathryn Price (“The Game Plan”) and Nichole Millard (“The Game Plan”). Stephen McPherson will serve as executive producer. “Guilt” is a co-production of Sea to Sky Entertainment (the joint venture between Lionsgate Television and Thunderbird Films) and BV Family Productions in association with ABC Family. Gary Fleder (“Kingdom,” “Scorpion”) directed the pilot.

“Beyond” is a one-hour drama about a young man who wakes up from a coma after 12 years and discovers new supernatural abilities that propel him into the middle of a dangerous conspiracy. From Imperative Entertainment and Automatik, “Beyond” is created, written and executive produced by Adam Nussdorf (“Once Upon a Time in Wonderland”). Tim Kring (“Heroes”), Zak Kadison, Justin Levy and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones will serve as Executive Producers. Lee Toland Krieger (“The Age of Adaline”) directed the pilot.

Part of the Disney|ABC Television Group, ABC Family (to be renamed Freeform in January 2016) is distributed in 94 million homes. The network entertains and connects to audiences with bold, relatable programming that celebrates the epic adventure of becoming an adult, from first kiss to first kid. The programming is a combination of network-defining original series and original movies, quality acquired series and blockbuster theatricals. “WATCH ABC Family” (also to be renamed Freeform in January 2016) is an authenticated service which allows viewers with participating TV subscription services access to 24/7 live viewing of the network, as well as continued on-demand access to such popular series at home and on-the-go via a wide array of devices. The network is also the destination for annual holiday events with “13 Nights of Halloween” and “25 Days of Christmas.”
