Last year, AMC moved Hell on Wheels to Saturday nights, leading many to believe the show would be cancelled. The ratings were lower but were good enough for the show to be renewed for a fourth season. Will the numbers rise or sink this time around? Will it be renewed for a fifth season or will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned!
A gritty period drama that takes place in the 1860s, Hell on Wheels revolves around the construction of the First Transcontinental Railroad and the various people connected with the Union Pacific Railroad. The cast includes Anson Mount, Common, Colm Meaney, Phil Burke, Christopher Heyerdahl, Robin McLeavy, Kasha Kropinski, Dohn Norwood, Jennifer Ferrin, Chelah Horsdal, MacKenzie Porter, Tayden Marks, and Jake Weber.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
11/7 update: Hell on Wheels has been renewed for a fifth and final season.
Final season averages: 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.09 million total viewers.

This series is one of my favorites to watch, although I DVR it and watch it almost commercial free. I’m not sure how (or if) it affects the “ratings”, but I hope it’s not canceled because of the bonehead move to Saturday time slot. The move affected the ratings negatively. Especially, near the end of Summer as people are squeezing in last minute vacations and weekends at the beach. I hope they change the time slot to its previous time, instead of Saturdays, and renew for at least one more season!

My husband and I have watched since the first time Hello On Whells aired. Why is it programmers base their viewing on 18 to 49 year olds? Do they believe anyone 50 and over are in bed at 4 p.m. and don’t watch television?

I understand that numbers do not lie, but why must everything be based on the 18 to 49 yo demographic ? It seems to me that 49 to 80 or so yo still have most of the money and may even perhaps spend it things advertised during that time slot as well, food for thought anyway. We always thought is was an awesome show, loosly based on facts, but a good Western none the less. with a clear hero/anti hero. We have watched since day one and are sad to see it go
So glad to hear that other people in this country are older than 49. If AMC thinks that the 18 ti 49 demographic stays home on Saturday night, they’re out of touch! Live this program and hate to see it cancelled. Love Anson Mount and some others in the cast, some of whom have been killed off.

Disappointed is hardly the word for it! More like devastated! Where else can you watch a great western like this and look at one of the most incredibly sexy man like Anson Mount!

The advertising for this show was not very good and changing the day/time was confusing. “HOW” is a great show that my husband and I really looked forward to seeing each week. We talked to people who had not even heard of it and now they are hooked watching the previous seasons! Love the costumes, characters (good and bad), story lines and unexpected twists — reconsider and please bring it back for good!

We love Hell On Wheels. I cant see why it was cancelled. All of our friends love it. Our son even had a get together with friends to watch it together. Why cancel such a good show. It is very disappointing!!
