Tonight marks the end of Hostages on CBS. Though the “limited series” has not been officially cancelled, the ratings have been so poor that there’s just no way that they’re going to bring it back for a second season.
On the two final episodes — titled “Suspicious Minds” and “Endgame” — Duncan (Dylan McDermott) discovers Sandrine’s (Sandrine Holt) betrayal and decides to use her to save Nina (Francie Swift) and Sawyer (Lola Cook). Before Ellen (Toni Collette) operates on President Kincaid (James Naughton), the First Lady (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) confronts her and forces Ellen to tell the truth about the assassination plot.
What do you think? If you’ve seen the finale, was it a satisfying ending to the series? Do you think they could have realistically made another season — either with some of the same characters or, with completely new ones? Would you have watched?
I really enjoyed the series. I liked the ending except for Duncan – I would have liked to have seen what punishment he received for all his doings. I don’t think a second series would have been as intriguing – how long can you keep hostages and drag the plot out.
I really enjoyed hostages. A lot of twists and turns. I hope they do not cancel the show.
As much as I’m fond of Toni Colette’s work, I would not have watched another season of the show. It lost it’s “oomph” for me at the halfway mark and I can’t be more specific other than I cared less and less about the characters other than Toni’s character. It just didn’t stack up to other shows like The Good Wife and with limited time I pick and choose carefully. I truly was hoping it would be an excellent addition to the shows I regularly watch as initially the cast lineup and premise was compelling.
I loved Hostages . Bring it back! Pick it up from where it ended. I would definitely watch another season!
do nor renew i thought is was a dumb show and the way it ended should stay that way
I thought it was stupid because I would of killed the president on my first try to save my family…that family went though hell….she didn’t know the president she knew her family but yet she choose the president over her family…..I’m sorry but if any parent is given a choice to kill someone they don’t know to save their children they are going to save their children…end of story.
The ending to Hostages was as well done as it could have been. Dylan McDermott turning himself in at the end was a good ending to what I thought was a quality, “edge of your seat” type show. The different characters’ lives all ended up in “limbo”, kind of accenuating how the hostage taking took its toll on all the people it touched. I enjoyed it and was thankful CBS didn’t just end it after 3 or 4 episodes because of ratings. I was glad I invested the time in watching this show, but I don’t think it could be… Read more »
Loved it, bring it back!
To many loose ends please bring it back
It should have been a mini series or a TV movie divided in two or more parts, not a regular one.
I definitely think CBS should bring back the show. I thought it was gripping and left off with room to write in any twist for a season 2. Staring with Duncan being saved from confessing and instead, write episodes that involve various hostage situations with Duncan as the lead negotiator. This is how one episode portrayed him, as a sexy, intense “hostage” negotiator.
It’s fairly good but entertaining bring it back from where it ended. Duncan gave himself up now what next for the other conspirators? I cannot see the essence of killing Archer that scene went a-begging as well as the manner Duncan and Sandrine renewed their purpose after Sandrine’s disloyalty was cheap act. Instead of threats and rapid consideration serious deliberation could had made it look real. Overall the show ended well until Ellen’s family came to the screen I was like did Archer kill them and for what reason…? My heart finally came to rest when they came together survivors… Read more »
Would definitely watch. Actually thought it was much better than The Blacklist
which was promoted so heavily during the fall. Thought it ended the only way it
could, but see it being a new program next year.
I think Hostages told everything there was to tell. It was a great show but I do not see season 2.
I enjoyed watching the show. It would be nice if CBS could bring back the show for another season to find out what happens the Dylan McDermott as he strolls into the police station to give himself up; also what happens to his wife does she make it through with her fight against leukomia; what happens to the character in the opearting room who tries to lock down the operating room to kill the President only to have Dr. Sanders knock him out with an injection; does he get away with the plot to kill the President with the Colonel… Read more »
I agree with all of this. There are too many unanswered questions and it’s totally been left open for more story. Duncan turning himself in kinda stumped me, but who knows what could come of it? I watched every single episode and am disappointed that it will be ending. I don’t usually get into new shows and thought I’d watch the first episode “just to check it out”. I was hooked and couldn’t wait to see what happened next.
Hostages was one of my favorite shows. Did not miss an episode. Loved it!!! I think it should return next season!
