Tonight marks the end of Hostages on CBS. Though the “limited series” has not been officially cancelled, the ratings have been so poor that there’s just no way that they’re going to bring it back for a second season.
On the two final episodes — titled “Suspicious Minds” and “Endgame” — Duncan (Dylan McDermott) discovers Sandrine’s (Sandrine Holt) betrayal and decides to use her to save Nina (Francie Swift) and Sawyer (Lola Cook). Before Ellen (Toni Collette) operates on President Kincaid (James Naughton), the First Lady (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) confronts her and forces Ellen to tell the truth about the assassination plot.
What do you think? If you’ve seen the finale, was it a satisfying ending to the series? Do you think they could have realistically made another season — either with some of the same characters or, with completely new ones? Would you have watched?
The “Hostages” ending was excellent but unfortunately with ABC cancelling many great shows, this looks like it is cancelled too. I don’t watch many new shows on ABC any more because of this and I didn’t watch “Killer Women”. I never thought it would end that way with Duncan.
I forgot it was on CBS and they usually don’t cancel their shows like ABC does.
I looked forward to watching Hostages every week. However, I was disappointed with the final scene….doesn’t seem to leave much to the imagination. I was hoping for a second season but given the plot, I can understand that it would be difficult to carry on.
HOSTAGES was the best TV thriller I have ever seen in my entire life.
It was/is genius!!!!! The choice of actors was also genius !!!!!!!
Applause to the writers, producers, and directors.
BUT
HOSTAGES was up against other good programs using the same time slot……so viewers were divided, even though DVR’s were working overtime.
The last episode was reallyyyyy good………..what would happen next, would be only in our minds.
I really liked this show and wondered how there would be a season two. Being that the storyline was strickly about the Presidents murder and his daughter, and then Dylan, surrenders, theres only one way of a season two… The only problem is they would be copying the Blacklist and he decides to double cross his whole gang!!! So since the show was most likely cancelled, it was a perfect ending… No one really cares about the rest of the gang!!!
LOVED THIS SHOW! My entire family and I use to watch it every Monday evening together. It was one of those few shows which a family could watch and enjoy together. The story line was easy to follow and strong, the acting was excellent, the sets were beautiful and each character had a high level of appeal. Even the “bad” guys were appealing. PLEASE CBS give the show another chance and bring a 2nd season!!!!!!! I will miss this show so much.
I’ve said all along that my husband and I LOVED this show. The premise was very unique and the A-list actors drew us in (Dylan McDermott & Toni Collette). Did the show have some weaknesses? Yes. I think the writing could have been better. Much better, but where the writing lacked the actors more than made up for it with their stellar performances. If this limited series were given a chance, I believe the writing would have gotten better. The problem is there have been so many shows on all networks across the board that were canned after 1 season… Read more »
I thought it was a great series. I hope it’s back next year. It had excitement, lots of twists and turns, and good acting. It showed people as they are – not either just good or bad, but real..
I know if CBS cancels it, maybe they can replace it with another dumb and stupid reality show.
I think the ending of “Hostages” where Dylan McDermott walks into the police station and surrenders was a very good one. And the rest of the characters and their lives were all left in “limbo”, all uncertain as to their futures. It seemed to show how all the people whose lives were touched by the hostage situation suffered in one degree or another from it in the end. I enjoyed the show from the beginning till the end. It was an “edge of your seat” show, which kept my interest. Its theme also is possible. Is it probable? No. Is… Read more »
I loved the show, but too many twists and turns to make another season w/0 confusion at some point !
I thought Hostages was awesome . My family records it so we can watch it together. Each episode was action packed, and always left you holding your breath til the next episode came on. It had everything in it. Love, hate betrayal, passion, honesty, lies…..
The story line was great, and they could have made another season out of it. If they didn’t kill the Colonel, he could have been hunting everyone down. They could have all been on the run…..
I wish it could have lasted longer.
I absolutely loved the show as did my family! We never missed an epsisode, and couldn’t wait for season 2! So YES!, of course we would watch. It was one of the few good ones on tv. Not suprised they are considering axing it! That seems to be what happens to the better shows.
I think it was a very good ending. I would have been disappointed if they had tried to stretch it to another season. Anything more would have been too contrived. We loved it and never missed one episode. Hope to see McDermott in a new series again.
Come to think of it, I had to tape the show on my DVR. I was watching Auburn and Florida State. I think that the time slot may have hurt the ratings of the show. I really hope CBS will bring it back for another season. I can’t wait to see what twists ans turns they will come up with ….perhaps Duncan will get another assignment…or the First Lady or her sister or the President for that matter will save him from prison.
I loved the show. There were so many twists and turns. Dylan McDermott was fantastic but I don’t know how he could return to the show. There was nothing left undone in the series. Great show!!!!
One and done is perfect. Wish they would do more one season shows. Great stories to be told.
