canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Lie to Me: FOX Gives Drama Full Season Order; Good or Great News?

by Trevor Kimball, November 27, 2009

Lie to Me tv showThough its performance hasn’t been stellar, FOX has finally ordered a full season of Lie to Me. What does this mean for the sophomore drama’s future?

Lie to Me follows Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth), a human lie detector, and his team of experts who help law officials solve their most difficult cases. The cast also includes Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Mekhi Phifer, and Monica Raymund.

The dramatic series is currently in a plum spot on the FOX schedule, sitting behind successful House on Monday nights. Unfortunately, it doesn’t hold onto much of the Hugh Laurie show’s audience. This past week, for example, House was first in the 18-49 demographic (4.6) and second in total viewers (11.95 million), opposite the Dancing with the Stars finals. Lie to Me shed 40% of the lead-in audience in both areas, attracting a 2.7 and 7.16 million.

Despite the so-so ratings performance, FOX has finally given the drama a full season and ordered nine additional installments. The decision comes several weeks after the decision to order more episodes of other shows like Glee and The Cleveland Show.

It will be some time before viewers see these episodes of Lie to Me however. The drama will be leaving the airwaves in mid-January, making way for the return of 24. FOX has indicated that Lie to Me will return at some point in the spring.

Unfortunately, the full season order is more likely of an indication that FOX anticipates they’ll be needing more original programming than their being satisfied with Lie to Me’s performance. What’s more, the show being put on hiatus isn’t likely to help the ratings.

At this point, Lie to Me looks like it will be firmly “on the bubble” come May. A third season isn’t assured and the show’s future will likely be decided by the strengths or weaknesses of FOX’s pilots for the 2010-11 season.

What do you think? Is Lie to Me worth watching or do you think FOX could do better? Would you move it to another night rather than put it on hiatus?

I am very disappointed that I haven’t been able to find this show since Jan. I know now that it’s been cancelled until MAY, But PLEASE bringit back. It is well acted, brilliantly written, and psychologically true in terms of characters and relationships.

BRING IT BACK.

I loved this Show. Are american audiances going mentally lame? Most shows are boring no brainers. Please give some of us an adult show- that isn’t just crime cops muder, gore and sex, sex, sex. It’time adults had a say.

What happened to “Lie to Me” my sister, aunt and uncle and I have been wondering. We very much enjoy the series and can’t believe cancellation is in the series’ future. We tried watching Chicago Code but it does not have the same appeal and we barely could finish the first episode. Bring back Lie to Me! The premise, the cast and each episode is exciting to watch. I hope the series is approved for a third season.

Lie to Me is #1 on my Tivo record and #1 on the first one to realy watch – so needless to say – the TV shows have a hard time competeing with things like Netflix for the time we watch TV now but LIE TO ME was watched same night it aired but the rest of the shows when or if I find the time – so to bad. I had notice that the other stars were losing their parts and was sorry to see that happen because I liked the team working mostly. Tim R is great but… Read more »

I really have enjoyed the show and would be disappointed if it did not continue, I have looked forward to Monday’s only because of it. I hope that the show will be around for much longer. I don’t understand why it was replaced with The Chicago Code, i like Lie to Me much, much better.

Lie to Me is so different. I got tired of all the CSI’s especially the Miami CSI. But this show was great. House is getting old. Can take too much of the nasty personality. But Lie to Me was fresh. I really like Tim Roth. The cast is very good too. A good fit. I like the police officer too. Please don’t cancel this program.

I love Lie to me! It’s an awesome show. I was so upset when I heard that it might not be returning for another season. I look forward to watching every week and now that it won’t be on until spring, I’ve been going nuts without it.

Lie to Me is one of three TV shows I watch. So, when it’s not on, I only watch 2 shows. I tried to watch Chicago Code, but it didn’t grab me at all. BRING BACK LIE TO ME!

I absolutely love this. show “Lie to Me”
It is my favourite show. I especially like the relationship
between him and his daughter. Really shows the soft side of Dr. Lightman

I was really disappointed to see that last week was season finale
and they replaced ‘Lie to Me’ with this new show Chicago Code
Do we really need another show about cops
At least Lie to Me is about something different.
I can’t wait for the next season of Lie to Me.

Well worth watching! The season just started and they’ve already brought it to an end. Hope this show doesn’t get axed like so many other good shows. Can’t believe people would rather watch ridiculous medical melodramas like Private Practice, or stupid reality shows, than watch this. The characters mesh so well together.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE this show. It gets better every week. Very disappointed that this week was the season finale. Can’t wait for next season. We recommend this program to everyone we know, and hope the network brings it back very soon.
