Major news for fans of Major Crimes. TVLine reports TNT has ordered eight more episodes for the series’ fifth season.
The police drama centers on the Major Crimes division of the LAPD. The cast includes Mary McDonnell, Tony Denison, GW Bailey, Michael Paul Chan, and Raymond Cruz. The fifth season just premiered earlier this month.
Instead of 13 episodes, now the fifth season of Major Crimes will contain 21 episodes. The extra order might be due to decent ratings. Only two episodes in, season five is receiving an average of .44 in the 18-49 demo and 3.64 million viewers.
The next episode airs on June 27th.

PLEASE continue to renew Major Crimes. I love the entire cast, they have evolved into individuals with depth, but still work like a well oiled machine and an unstoppable tram. Both my husband and I watch Major Crimes and really like it. I didn’t like it a lot when it first started as a spin off and Sharon’s personality had not been completely developed from someone separate from the bitchy IA character she started with. Now she’s very interesting, challenging, multifacited and has developed into a leader of a show we look forward to. Major Crimes “CANNOT” go off the air, we LOVE watching every week. Please don’t take it off the air & we need to see Amy & Sanchez get to kick a little butt on there but within reason. They also need to have Fritz on more & let Brenda make a appearance every now & then.
My husband and I love Major Crimes. We just do not miss it. We have some suggestions though. Send Rusty off to college and take his mother and all the wasted drama that creates. Rusty needs to grow up and leave Sharon’s apron strings. Include the pathologist in more often. Increase Amy’s physical abilities, we loved when she kicked the guy right in the face. Add more of that. Have Fritz on more often and maybe a special guest star Brenda once. Let Sanchez have a little of his aggression back without him getting in trouble. Major Crimes is one of my favorite shows. I was quite surprised with some of the plots. Surprised in a good way!!!
I love this show – have been watching from day one of The Closer – I now have my grandson (14) hooked too – he enjoys because you were smart enough to throw Rusty and Buzz more air time and he gets such a “kick” out of “the old guy” Provenza…so he is appreciating the curmudgeon part he plays – finds him funny and entertaining…. Jeesh! I hate auto correct! It usually isn’t correct! My previous comment should say that the Closer was and is still a great show! Major Crimes is just a shadow. And I really miss Fritz with a personality! In fact, the whole show lacks personality. Like I said before, please bring the guys back as they were in the Closer. Where is Kyra Sedgwick?!
For the last several months I have been watching reruns of the Closer. What a terrific show that wasn’t it. I record on 3 different channels. Seeing the Closer again only reminds me how watered-down Major Crimes is and while I don’t like to be unkind, Mary McDonnell is a boring performer and the story lines are poorly condtructed and presented when compared to the original.Please resurrect the Closer and give th team of the Closer back their personalities. After all of the tragedies we are facing currently in our fight to keep Americans safe, you choose to start a show with a masked Isis terrorist beheading an American citizen. This show should have never even thought of airing this episode after the deadliest terrorist act on American soil just 2 weeks ago. I am very disappointed with the writers and insensitivity to those families who are suffering.
One of the best detective/crime procedurals on TV; please don’t cancel it — at least not for many, many more seasons. Instead, maybe try letting more people know about it. It’s worth a good watch; after the first season — you’ll be hooked. I promise.
I do like Major Crimes & have watched since the beginning episode. I’m glad TNT ordered more episodes.
