Tonight, CBS aired the final episode of Medium. After seven seasons and 130 episodes, it was time to say goodbye to Allison DuBois (Patricia Arquette), her husband Joe (Jake Weber), their children and friends. The series finale of Medium is called “Me Without You.”
As the episode begins, we see Allison having an evening phone conversation with Joe who’s at the start of a flight home from Hawaii. Later, Allison is awoken by another call from Joe. His flight is arriving early and then it hits turbulence, and crashes into the ocean. The episode flashes forward seven years and we learn that Joe indeed died. Allison is now a lawyer involved in a big drug case. Her boss, the district attorney, is killed by the leader of a drug cartel who’s on trial. Manuel Devalos (Miguel Sandoval) is the mayor and Lee Scanlon (David Cubitt) is the chief of detectives.
Allison begins to dream about Joe and realizes that he’s actually been alive in Mexico with amnesia. The drug lord has been using him to transport narcotics across the border. She ultimately decides to throw the case so that she can reunite with her husband. She and daughter Marie drive to Mexico and she is reunited with him, finally.
Unfortunately, it’s a dream. She awakes back in the present and Joe is there, as a ghost. He did die in the crash and he tried to send a message to Allison about how good her life will still be, even without him. Unfortunately, her mind couldn’t accept it and concocted a way for him to still be alive. Joe tells her how much he loves her and that the loss will hurt for a long time but it will get better. Though she pleads for him to stay, he needs to go.
The scene flashes forward to 41 years later. We see a very old Allison, surrounded by photos of her children and grandchildren. She dies peacefully. Allison appears as her younger self and looks at her now dead body. Joe appears to her, just as he had been. He waited, of course. She asks, “Do I get a kiss?” He replies, “From now, until the end of time.” The two embrace and kiss. They are together, forever more.
The episode ends with brief scenes from the show’s seven year history and each castmember silently saying goodbye to the camera and faithful viewers.
What do you think? Was this a satisfying conclusion to Medium? What did you like or dislike about it?

I hate to see the show go. Great Finale.
Disappointed to see this end and was a surprise. Bit of a shock. Enjoyed all seven seasons. Thank you
Who decides what shows stay and what shows are cancelled? Medium is my favorite show. I wait every week to watch it and I didn’t get my vote in ??? I’m 54 and I love this show. I’ll just stop watching cbs from now on.
Hated to see this end and was a surprise. Bit of a shock. Enjoyed to the all seven season.
Thank you
I didnt know that this was the last episode of ‘ medium’, but it could`nt have had a sweeter ending. i was crying up a storm, it was very touching.
i will surely miss this show, was one of my favorites, so i hope to see you guys in something just as great as this one…:0)
I am so upset that this show is over! I hate watching the BIG 4 networks! They take off every show that’s good. Then they end up filling the time slot with stupid sitcoms. I’m just over the whole network television thing completely!
OH MY GOD!!!!!! Why did they cancel? And no I hated the ending….dont let them die….bring them back PLEASE
I was sad the series had to end. And I wasn’t all that crazy about Alison being left here without Joe. I didn’t find it satisfying – but I did think the cast goodbyes at the end were great – although they made me cry more. I will really miss this series, it was the last of its kind, I think. I will have good memories of the show and hope to see Patricia Arquette and Jake Weber in movies and tv in the future. Exceptional actors.
great ending
I loved the final show-had real values and meaning-and as always shows such close family ties and so much love. I will miss Meduim-very upset the show has left the air. always one of my favorites and loce all the actors. Joe is such a perfect husband and father-if men would only use him for an example! Was wonderful to watch a couple so much in love and loved all the stories.
we both sat there with our jaws open. wha’ happened? it’s over, for good? great move CBS! now we have more time for “2 1/2 men” or “how i met your mother”. what’s the matter, CBS? was the show too heady, too complicated for you to follow? did it hurt your brain to try to follow it? is it no wonder your ratings are so bad. this was the only show on your network that i watched. so, goodbye, CBS.
Bizarre!
This is my favorite show. I had no idea it was going off the air. I enjoyed watching a program n0t consumed with graphic violence. The family personalities kept me tuning in each week. The final episode left me with a hopeful feeling which in this day is rare. I’m still very disappointed that one of the better shows on T.V. is no longer.
It worked
NO !!! Why doesn’t CBS just kill all the good shows and keep the junk? Oh, that’s what they are doing.
