Here in the states, the Motive TV show can hardly be called a ratings success. However, it’s doing well enough in Canada for CTV to renew it for a third season. Production resumes this fall.
Motive revolves around a strong-willed Vancouver detective (Kristin Lehman) who’s also a single mom. At the start of each episode, viewers are shown the killer and victims. As the criminal investigation progresses, details of what led to the crime are revealved via flashbacks. The rest of the cast includes Louis Ferreira, Lauren Holly, Roger Cross, Brendan Penny, and Cameron Bright.
Though last summer’s ratings weren’t very good, ABC picked up the 13 episodes of season two and they started airing last week. Season two’s ratings have been even worse and it’s currently the network’s lowest-rated summer show.
ABC only licenses the show so it’s cheaper for them than producing their own summer dramas. Could the ratings be poor enough this year so that it wouldn’t make sense for them to air the show, even at a low cost? We shall see.

I love it and want it to continue, but ABC has a tendency of cancelling good show’ s before so don’t be surprised by what they do!
I love Motive! Been waiting for it’s return and I’m so tired of ABC killing shows I like! They need to promote it more because it’s a very unique show!
I enjoy the show and would like to see a season 3. I like the format on this police drama and the main characters. There is enough interplay and background story to garnish each episode, without overwhelming the main plot.
Like the concept of the show as well as the cast. Hopefully ABC will air Season 3 even if it’s during the summer.
I absolutely love this show more than any other that I have been into in the last few years. I anxiously await all of the episodes and look forward to the nights they are on. I am one of those lucky few that know the awesomeness of Motive and have been able to watch it twice a week due to living not too far away from the Canadian border where I have that amazing opportunity.
I really like this show. It is different & has a unique concept. It should be left on the air !! Come one, I’m 76 years young & my TV shows are my only entertainment. Don’t tell me that the shows are only for 18-35 year olds. I buy groceries & electronics (sometimes, albeit) too !!
I love this show! Quality characters, actors, writing and especially how they cut shots going from scene to scene. It is clever. Keep the seasons coming.
I find it hard to understand why this is such a poorly rated show in the States. It’s got a great cast and the weekly stories are unique. The arc that is running through the series is as compelling as the weekly stories themselves. I’d much rather watch Motive than Rookie Blue (which I did used to watch but have since dropped). Motive has substance to it. US viewers need to turn off the reality programming and start watching something that actually makes their brains work.
I love motive! It’s a fun twist on the typical crime shows. Instead of a whodunit it’s a whydunit. I love being able to figure out the crime with the detectives on the show
I love MOTIVE, as well. It’s low key and not as crazy as some of the shows on right now. I sure hope ABC gives it a chance and doesn’t just cancel it willy nilly.
Motive is a unique and a great TV show. My husband and I are pleased it has returned. Hopefully, next season too! Wish people knew it was on and would watch it!
This is a very interesting and different concept and I would love for it to continue.
I have been watching it , tonight is the Ca finale and I really like it.
I do not know if they are promoting it at all in the States. But it is a good show.
I am glad they are getting another season.
