ABC’s mid-season medical drama, Off the Map, recently concluded its first season on the air. The alphabet network’s been looking for a new hit drama and this one was produced by veteran producers of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. How does Off the Map stack up? Will it be cancelled or renewed for season two?
Off the Map revolves around six doctors who have “lost their way” and travel to a remote South American jungle to help those in need and to try to rediscover the reasons why they wanted to become physicians. The series features the talents of Caroline Dhavernas, Jason George, Jonathan Castellanos, Mamie Gummer, Martin Henderson, Rachelle Lefevre, Valerie Cruz, and Zach Gilford.
The medical drama premiered with a mediocre 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.57 million viewers. The TV series won its timeslot but was disrupted in some parts of the country by coverage of the Tucson Memorial. ABC decided to give Off the Map another chance to attract viewers by rerunning the first episode the following night, in place of a Private Practice rerun, and it retained much of the Grey’s Anatomy lead-in audience.
Unfortunately, that’s still not a great start and subsequent episodes of Off the Map essentially drew fewer and fewer viewers each week. The final episode of the season hit a series low and attracted a very poor 1.3 rating in the demo with only 3.80 million viewers.
Off the Map is the second-lowest scripted series on ABC that hasn’t already been officially cancelled, averaging a 1.7 in the demo and 4.96 million viewers. It ranks below doomed No Ordinary Family and just above doomed Detroit 1-8-7. In short, unless ABC really needs to keep Shonda Rhimes happy, there is no reason why the network would bring Off the Map back next year for season two.

please reconsider , we need another season it was amazing
All my life I’ve never seen any foriegn tv series. Never! But when I watched the off the map, wow! My expectations changed! I swear to god! in behalf of the viewers,……we badly need the season 2!

This show has everything anyone could want; action, drama, suspense, adventure, and laughter. The show, “Off the Map” is a hit series. Airing it for the first time in the middle of summer was the mistake. If you are to air this show between October-February it WILL become the best series. I have been waiting and watching for this show to come back since last season. I must have more “Off the Map!!”

I absolutly loved thfirst saeson of off the map and would love them to contiue the show!!! The show definatly needs a second chance!!! It would be a great new season of medical drama and action !!! Please give it another shot!!! 🙂
Please give it another chance. The show is great! Don’t see how Grey’s Anatomy is gonna last much longer, and those folks wanting a good medical drama show can ease right on into the “GA in the jungle” series.
never got to see it until now on netflix, really good so it was removed like most that we enjoy. If it was not on local tv in south Florida no wonder it did not get rave reviews.
By the way, I watched this show in South Africa, that is why this post is so late. Both my mom and i love it.
Off the Map was amazing. I watched the whole season start to finish in one day. I couldn’t shut it off, I wanted to see what happened next. The ending to the season left too much open and it would be heart breaking not to know what happens next. I haven’t been this excited to watch tv since I was a little kid. The feeling of needing to know what happens now is overwelming and needs to be fed 🙂
I loved this show! Its not like all the other doctor shows with all the new technology, they had to get creative in this show. It was a really good show and should do more seasons!!
