It’s not often that a new show gets some people so angry before it even airs but NBC’s new TV show, Outsourced, certainly rubs some people the wrong way. Did that hurt the ratings? Will it be quickly cancelled or become a long-term staple of NBC’s Thursday night line-up?
Outsourced follows a US sales manager, Todd Dempsey (Ben Rappaport), who’s assigned to supervise his company’s call center in India. The new sitcom also stars Anisha Nagarajan, Diedrich Bader, Parvesh Cheena, Pippa Black, Rebecca Hazelwood, Rizwan Manji, and Sacha Dhawan.
Some people have expressed resentment over the show’s theme, especially considering this country’s struggling economy and unemployment problem. Others maintain that the show’s intent is to show how offices are the same, regardless of where they’re located.

In its first week on the air, Outsourced attracted a 3.6 in the 18-49 demographic and 7.49 million total viewers. For the timeslot, it ranked in third place in total viewers but was second in the demo, where the numbers really count.
On the downside, Outsourced lost about 20% of its Office lead-in audience in the demo and 12% in total viewers. Also, about 15% of its audience tuned out midway through the episode. Those people gave it a try and probably won’t be back next week.
New shows typically lose about 15% in week two so we’ll have to wait and see how this one’s ratings hold up. For now, things look good for Outsourced.
What do you think? Did you give it a try? Were you offended by Outsourced? Was it different than you expected? Cancel or keep it?

I cannot wait to watch the next episode. It is hilarious! I am addicted.
My friend told me about this show, and I just love it. I hope they don’t cancel it. I haven’t watched regular tv in years, too many shows about crime and hospitals. This is new, fresh and funny! Keep them episodes coming!
KEEP IT! As a southeast Asian American, I really can’t get enough of the humor in this show. I don’t know why anyone would be that offended by the jokes because they’re not meant to target any specific group ( american or indian) . I love the parallelism of east vs west culture clash. Good show! I’m hooked on it.
This show had great promise. Nothing seems to be funnier than an East Indian accent. That said, it is really very insensitive and the main character is more stupid than he should be. It really isn’t very funny. Some of the characters are amusing like the Indian manager. I watch it from time to time but would not care if it along with Community were canceled.
I love the show. It is very accurate description o f today’s situation. It’s a great show and should not be cancelled
Keep it! We love it.
I love it. Its hard to find something on tv with a fun atmosphere and this show nailed it. Please DONT cancel it. its silly to call it offensive because if its offending anyone its offending Indian people. Im white but love the show!
Are you a subscriber of Verizon? Or someone who purchased a game from EA that is defective? Then you might have spoken to Tech Support Agents like Gopta and VJ Dutta. When I watch this show I do not invision them in it, happy characters selling and never having a customer refund. I imagine these two in a toilet secretly crying after their dignity is reduced by an irrate caller from Boise Idaho for the price of $200 a month. While you laugh, they cry. OUTSOURCED is a comedy show with a funny accent. Call center agents from India might… Read more »
I’ve forced myself to give this show a shot. I miss scrubs. Outsourced really sucks.
I liked the show. I think it’s a great way to bring cultures together and show different perspectives in a humorous light.
I think the NBC executives and producers are extremely insensitive to those of us who don’t make their 6-7 figure salaries. What do they care? Who cares if they offend? While I’m struggling with making $8.04/hr. on a part-time job because that’s all I can get right now, they are laughing themselves to the bank and their lunches! I was management in a major corp. for 13 years and then the division I worked for was outsourced to India! Somebody got a big payoff, while I got the ax. While India is enjoying a apt. and condo construction boom, I’m… Read more »
Hilarious situations and culture clash. Keep it coming!
Great show. I have many Indian in-laws and everyone loves it. The writing is crisp, timing is great acting is great also. The jokes are spot-on. I don’t know why anyone would find the show offensive. Do people find ” The Office” offensive because it makes fun of people? Is Outsourced offensive because it makes fun of Americans AND Indians?
I hope this show stays on and doesn’t “jump the shark” too soon.
the show is great, relax people take it lightly
Awful show. Cancel it now please. Bleck.
