canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Parenthood: Renewed for Sixth and Final Season

by Trevor Kimball, May 11, 2014

Parenthood renewed, endingThings were a little touch and go for awhile but NBC has now renewed Parenthood for a sixth season. It will be the last season and the cast and crew will have 13 episodes to say goodbye.

Parenthood revolves around the lives of the extended Braverman family in Northern California. The ensemble cast includes Lauren Graham, Dax Shepard, Tyree Brown, Joy Bryant, Max Burkholder, Erika Christensen, Miles Heizer, Sam Jaeger, Monica Potter, Savannah Paige Rae, Xolo Mariduena, Mae Whitman, with Bonnie Bedelia and Craig T. Nelson.

The series has never been a ratings hit for NBC but it has remained a pretty consistent performer with a devoted fanbase. This season, the ratings took a pretty dramatic downturn, dropping 20-30% compared to the fourth season. Shows like Revolution, Growing Up Fisher, and Believe all had better ratings but they were cancelled.

The network wanted to cut costs so they could bring the large ensemble series back for a final season but members of the cast reportedly didn’t want to agree to a smaller-than-usual episode guarantee. A compromise was eventually made.

We should have a better idea this week when season six will begin airing.

What do you think? Are you glad that Parenthood has been renewed for a final season? Would you like to see a seventh season or do you think this is the right time to end it?

wow, another great show cancelled by idiot executives.. TOO many shows get cancelled, while the moronic talent show and pathetic sit coms live on.. unbelievable.. A real life story about real life events, and it gets low ratings. that tells you the mind set of the audience now days.. If it is not a “look at me i need attention talent show, or a raunchy sitcom with sexual innuendos abound, it doesnt make it…

I’m thrilled, as well, that the Braverman family will continue to entertain us all. This was we can find out if Zeke and Camille take off to do that traveling she wanted to do. That may keep the cast cost down some. I’d also like to see more of some of the other couples.

This is my favorite show hands down. It is the only show that consistently moves me to tears every week. Bravo to the writers. I hope it goes for more than one more season. The show always gives us something to talk about the next day at work.

Well, first-this is one of the best shows on TV.
Stop putting it against-SCANDAL. Why would you do that. Scandal is one of the highest watched shows. I cannot say it is better than Parenthood because it is so different. This is what most viewers want to see without worry of what is in the show.
You can watch it with your parents, your children and grandchildren. Tisk Tisk NBC

one of the best written shows ever………..i hope they decide to keep this going for more than one more season………this shows story lines are the closet to real life issues……..i dont think i have ever watched a better series………..please keep this going…….there are not that many great drama series left on primetime television…….:)

I think this should be the last season because it gives NBC the chance to complete the story without dragging it out for a 7th season.

I’m happy that Parenthood is coming back for a 6th season, I just love this show. They
are so down to earth people. I wish it would go on for many more seasons. But like
they say, all good things must come to an end, it’s just too bad. I will miss this show
terribly.

I’m so glad it’s coming back!!! But it shouldn’t be for just one more season. The
Cast is outstanding! They tackle serious topics and tackle them in the most honest way unlike anything I have ever seen. I’m beleive that this show will last longer then 6 seasons it’s too good to end this soon!!

Oh thank heavens you are not canceling my favorite show. But I wish it wasn’t the last season! I love love love this show. I could watch it all day. I am in live with every character. Please reconsider keeping it on. But if it has to be the last season, I hope it’s a really good one!!!

Parenthood is one of those shows, my wife and I joke, where nothing significant seems to happen. But, it’s got maybe the most charming cast with the best characters on television. I’d like to think this is a show that could last 10-15 years, but rising salaries and low ratings will prevent that from happening. I’ll be sorry to see this end.

I am so glad Parenthood is returning but sad its for only 13 episodes. The show is unlike anything currently on tv, and many people may not be into it, but it appeals to people and that’s what many have to remember, it’s wholesome, funny and heartwarming. Hopefully ratings could raise unexpectedly and we could see more of the braver man family!!

Yes we need a 7th. season and an 8th. 9th and 10th, this is a family show not one of those comedy’s that is full of sex shown in primetime or those detective shows full of violence and crimes.
