There was no better news in week two. The new TV series attracted a poor 1.5 in the demo with 5.69 million. That’s a decline of 17% in the demo and the show already couldn’t afford to lose any points. It’s looking like this may be one of NBC’s first cancellations of the season.
Season average: 1.6 demo with 5.87 million.
Episode 01-01: Thursday, 9/22/11
Though it looked like it would be one of the stronger shows on the NBC schedule, the viewers don’t seem to agree. The first episode registered a disappointing 1.8 in the 18-49 demographic and just 6.05 million viewers. It was in third (last) place for the timeslot. What’s more, many viewers turned the program off before the episode finished. That’s not a good sign for next week.
On a positive note, Prime Suspect outperformed last season’s non-celebrity version of The Apprentice by 20%. That’s not much of a consolation though since that edition was a certifiable bomb.
Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the new Prime Suspect TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
I love the show Prime Suspect. The network should give this show a chance because I just started watching it even though it has been on for awhile. Many shows take time for people to realize they are on and gain a following. I just think it would be an injustice for them to cancel it after just one season.
Prime Suspect is my favorite show….ahead of its time, since the points made are subtle and very close to real life responses. The actors are great and I continue watching the episodes over and over again, discovering more to understand each time. I will buy the dvd. Maria Bello is a great actress who carries roles of diverse emotion as a detective confronting violence and the male dominance of the police department, a daughter who has overcome loss and gained responsibility, a single woman who copes with her social ties and her lover, and the her own natural desire for… Read more »
NBC should just leave things alone ! This is a good show. Why do the networks always cancel the good shows and leave the mindless garbage on? I guess they think the public would rather watch shows like the biggest loser. NBC will be the biggest loser if they cancle this show.
please do not cancel!
One of the best shows on TV. Well written, smart, well directed and tremendous acting. Finally a female cop who doesn’t wear high heels and designer clothes on the job!
Please do not cancel this show. It is one of the best on TV with a great cast. Agree with Bob….finally a down-to-earth female cop who tells it like it is in a man’s world. Why do you keep running it against a top ten rated show? Try it on another night when there is nothing but garbage on. PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL THIS EXCELLENT SHOW!!!
Best show of the season! Do not cancel, who makes these decisions!!!!!
I’ve written this kind of post too many times and I’m sick of writing them. I loved The Shield and Homicide and Terriers and Community. And where are they now? Gone! What do they have in common with Prime Suspect? Fine actors – some of them NY stage actors, some of them like Kenny Johnson, not. And they all work together so beutifully ( except the boyfriend who isn’t part of law enforcement, a mistake, I think. But Johnson has chemistry with chairs, parrots, plates of herring, etc. ) In Prime Suspect, you’ll find good, natural writing – sometimes really… Read more »
This show should be put on as a summer replacement when there is nothing to watch but reruns or game shows. Better yet TNT should take it over. They seem to have better sense when it comes to good programing. This is a don’t miss show with a great cast! You can’t air it at the 10:00 spot on the three biggest nights of the week and expect to get new viewers . Too many established shows at that hour on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Great show, amazing cast — please do not cancel!
I agree with Montecore I bet since the closer is leaving maybe prime suspect could survive onTNT
Needs to renewed…these tv exec just need to leave things alone !!!
It should be renewed! Why do all of the great shows seem to be cancelled? Southland was brought back on TNT so why can’t they do the same with Prime Suspect?
It is a great show with fantastic writing and an even better cast! Do not cancel it!!!!
To good to cancel.
Typical of the idiots running network tv..cancel any show with quality writing and acting..while keeping dumbed down crap. Prime Suspect should be picked up by a network with brains..like Southland….
