It doesn’t take a brilliant mind to have seen this coming. Today, it was revealed that CBS had officially cancelled Pure Genius after one season.
The drama follows top medical professionals as they team up with cutting-edge tech experts and try to push the boundaries of modern medicine to save lives. The cast includes Augustus Prew, Dermot Mulroney, Odette Annable, Reshma Shetty, Aaron Jennings, Ward Horton, and Brenda Song.
Early on, CBS decided not to order more episodes of Pure Genius, suggesting the show was headed for cancellation. Over the course of its first season, the series earned pretty low ratings, averaging a 0.86 in the 18-49 demo and only 5.34 million viewers.
Recently, star Augustus Prew said he thinks the show didn’t work because it underwent an identity crisis:
But if I’m being honest, I think we got caught between two different shows. I think CBS wanted something a little more procedural, and [executive producer] Jason [Katims, of Friday Night Lights/Parenthood fame] wanted something a little more character-driven.”

I loved watching Pure Genius. . It should be brought back. It had drama, excitement, moral issues, conflict and happiness. I would love to see it brought back.
Did a search on Bing to see what happened to Pure Genius only to discover it was cancelled. I can only say I am disappointed. Shows with .54 are still running let alone .8x. Not everyone that watches TV is 18-49. In fact, I venture to say it is the it is 18-49’ers that are the cord-cutter-culture watching less network TV.
That is some bullcrap!! This was a great show!! I was sooo looking forward to season 2!! Can another network not pick it up or even Netflix!! This sux!!
I loved pure genius!!!! They should have renewed it! I am so disappointed!!!!!
I loved it. Shows do not have to have shootings, chasing bad guys and sex to bring in ratings. I hope ANOTHER network will pick it up. If that happens and ratings soar, it will prove content, good writing and acting are still wanted in this crazy world of ours.

Have been suffering all summer through the junk reality shows and summer replacements, waiting for “PURE GENIUS” to return. What????? Why are only the 18-49 year olds the ones that count? All my friends are in agreement, we’ve been waiting. CBS, you give us Gotham and all the other violent junk.

There are no good family shows on tv anymore. They take all the good shows off and put on violence.

I was looking to see why I haven’t seen the next season starting and find out it’s been cancelled. What’s wrong with these people they keep all the shows that are just JUNK and get ride of the ones that show hope, compassion, and inspire you so they can add more violence and crime, like we don’t have enough of that just watching the news! I’m disabled and watching this show gave me HOPE that one day it’s possible to find a way to cure or even just lesson my pain. All so they could add more drivel!

Pure genius has truly helped me. It showed me that the impossible can be possible. This show is inspiring a lot of people just like me to dream big and hope for a better future. I am 14 years old and going to university next year. This show kept me going when I was having doubts about the future. 92% of most people go to school, get their degrees, get a dead end job and lose hope on their dream thinking that, that is where they are going to be all their life.
