A couple weeks ago, FOX shifted their low-rated Rake series to Friday nights. Now, the show is on the move again.
Rake follows a lawyer (Greg Kinnear) who tries to do good but just can’t seem to get beyond his numerous addictions that cause him so much trouble. The cast also includes John Ortiz, Necar Zadegan, Bojana Novakovic, David Harbour, Tara Summers, Miranda Otto, and Ian Colletti.
The series is being replaced by Kitchen Nightmares as of this Friday night. A rerun of the Gordon Ramsay series will lead into the one-hour series finale of Raising Hope at 9pm. Season six of Nightmares kicks off on April 11th.
Back-to-back episodes of Rake will air on Saturday, April 5th, starting at 8pm. That will leave one episode unaired — the sixth installment produced, titled “Mammophile.” No word on when or if that will see the light of day.
One thing is clear however. Despite the fact that FOX hasn’t cancelled it yet, there’s no way that Rake will be returning for a second season.
What do you think? Have you been watching the Rake TV series? Why do you think it hasn’t caught on?
My husband and I have been fans of Rake since the first episode. Greg Kinnear is absolutely *perfect* in his role, and has a great supporting cast as well. Why it hasn’t done well in the ratings is simply a puzzle. As some other contributors have suggested, perhaps it needed more promotion? Perhaps a different time slot? Surely this series merits a second chance. We viewers need to be more proactive – we need to let the networks know when we’re unhappy about a series as good as this one being cancelled!
I agree, but how do we do that? Is anyone with any influence at Fox reading these comments?!
Anyone with influence at Fox may not be reading these comments, I agree. So that’s why I sent an e.mail directly to Fox. And if Fox is inundated with e.mails protesting the cancellation of Rake, they just might re-think the decision. Viewers who like the series have everything to gain and nothing to lose, except for a few minutes, by taking the time to send an e.mail.
My husband and I loved this show. Greg K. plays his part so well. Enjoy the other actors as well. This is the first time I’ve commented on any show!
Fox should have known Rake would never have a chance to get a big audience when it started during the Olympics and then competed with March Madness. We liked the show and think it had the potential to draw more viewers and develop stories that would keep them coming back. Hope someone will pick up the series.
This show is so good. Greg Kinnear is such a good actor. Please don’t cancel it. Give it a chance
I love the show and am so disappointed it’s cancelled . I think Greg Kinnear is fantastic on it . I can’t believe tonight is the last episode . Fox , please give it another chance , in a better time slot … Andddddd create more hype , I don’t think people realized it was Greg Kinnear , it was under marketed ! I’m pleading !
It’s a great show! I love it!! Give it a chance people!!! Uggggg!!!!
Rake is one of my favorite shows. I love the humor. I do watch it on hulu though. Maybe they can pick up the series. Fox evidently dropped the advertising ball.
I love this show…I think it is clever and GK is perfectly cast.
If this is cancelled, I shall be very sad. Perhaps it would have
caught on with less scheduling switching and a little promotion.
Shame on Fox!
Love this show. Wish they’d give it a chance. Refreshing and different. Really really love this show.
Love the show, I search the internet to find it each week, I think Greg K does an incredible job, the network needs to give it more exposure! It’s the one show I look forward to each week.
The show is great. I have watched every episode. It’s hard to keep a good following when newtworks keep moving shows around to different days and times. I like Friday alot better than Thursday, and when I turned on Fox last night and kitchen nightmares was on, I wondered what had happened. I CAN’T STAND kitchen nightmares or any of the other reality TV shows. I NEVER WATHC any of the reality shows. It seems that the networks move the shows around when they want them to fail. I agree with previous statements. Give the show a chance. It think… Read more »
I love the show. I kept waiting to watch it every Thursday night. I missed one show when it was moved to Friday. I hope it will be back. I love all the characters.
🙁 I love Rake its an awesome show I just found out about it a while ago and watched it all on telus on demand and that’s how I watched it since I’m usually not home and there’s no commercials so that was a plus side too. The Australian version sucks I just can’t get past their accents even though I usually love their accents I just cant watch a whole show. PLEASE DONT CANCEL THIS SHOW!
For goodness sake, give this show a chance.. It is a great show, funny and refreshing.
A fresh and delightful black comedy that FOX had no clue how to promote. I only stumbled across the show by accident. This would not have failed on another network that knows how to draw in the right audience. I am looking forward to the 2 episodes tonight and will relish every moment.
You guys that keep saying “Black Comedy”, are you watching a different show? This show stars Greg Kinnear. There’s only two toads in the whole show now that they killed off the mayor. The mayor’s wife, who bangs Kinnear, and the pimp/baseball coach.
Yeah, I consider it a black comedy compared to other stuff out there. When you consider how the mayor died, Keen, who will sleep with anyone, the double-life of Julius, everyone who wants their names out of “the book”, prostitute-turned student now engaged to a ‘hero’ who doesn’t even know her real name? This is no Community or Big Bang Theory comedy.
