USA cancelled Rush and its troubled physician after one season but the doctor on Royal Pains isn’t going anywhere. The cable channel has renewed the summer drama for seasons seven and eight.
Royal Pains follows the continuing adventures of a former ER doctor (Mark Feuerstein) from New York who, along with his younger brother (Paulo Costanzo), runs a concierge doctor business in The Hamptons. The show’s cast includes Reshma Shetty, Brooke D’Orsay, Campbell Scott, and Ben Shenkman.
Like the rest of USA’s TV shows, Royal Pains was way down in the ratings this season. The 13 installments of season six averaged 2.02 million viewers with a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Compared to season five, it was down by 43% in viewers and 35% in the demo.
Still, with little success in launching new programming and White Collar ending soon, a renewal for Royal Pains makes sense. Unless the ratings improve, it seems likely that Royal Pains will be ending with season eight.
There will be just eight episodes per season for years seven and eight and they’re likley to be spread across two summers. The order will see Royal Pains hit the 100th episode mark in season eight, more than enough installments for a healthy syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like Royal Pains on USA? Do you think it’s time for the show to end?
I love this show!
I love this show, Characters are great, the story line is exciting. This series has been a real treat. Look forward to many more episodes in the future.
My wife and I just re-played all 6 seasons of Royal Pains. We are so looking forward to seasons 7 and 8. I have a Pre-med. Degree and my Wife has worked in the medical field for over 50 years. My son also works in medicine. We are always fascinated with the accuracy of the Medical Diagnosis, the quality/accuracy of the visual effects and the extraordinary talents of the Actors and Actress’ who appear as patients and other characters in each show. Of course, there are a few mistakes we notice, probably because of our Medical Backgrounds and personal experiences.… Read more »

I LOVE ROYAL PAINS. I THINK IT’S VERY INTERESTING UPLIFTING FUNNY INSTEAD OF LIKE MOST ALL SHOWS NOW DAYS EITHER WITH TOO MUCH SEXUAL CONTENT, WAY TOO MUCH GRUDE LANGUAGE AND BEHAVIOR OR EITHER ALL ABOUT DEATH WHETHER IT’S CRIME SHOWS OR EVIL JUNK!!! LEAVE SOMETHING ON THAT CAN BE FUNNY ENTERTAINING AND PRETTY DESCENT ALSO. I LIKE SOME CRIME SHOWS BUT THERE’S JUST NOT ENOUGH CLEAN HUMOR ON TV ANYMORE. THERE NEEDS TO BE MORE OUT THERE IT’S RIDICULOUS!!! PLEASE KEEP IT GOING AND THE FACT THER IS ONLY GOING TO BE 8 EPISODES FOR THE NEXT 2 SEASONS… Read more »
Looking forward to the return of Royal Pains. Have enjoyed the show and adventures of its characters.
Good show, but the Evan character needs to go. He is way too much of a know-it-all
and wise guy.
Love!!!!
Really happy this series is returning. Love how the characters have evolved. Always entertaining!
I like this show and I believe you would get better reviews if you kept the time and day consided
Glad to see that this show will be on for at least two more seasons.
We just discovered Royal Pains and love it. We just purchased season 6 because that is all we could find. If the series continues we will purchase the season. We don’t have regular TV as we are too busy to watch things when they are on and if we record something we forget about it.
We love the show and love how the characters keep growing and evolving. Please don’t end it just because a few less people arent watching. I don’t watch the News ever but they still seem to keep those shows on TV. Keep it on!
