canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Stargate Universe: Syfy TV Show Cancelled; No Season Three

by Trevor Kimball, December 16, 2010

Stargate UniverseSyfy has confirmed that there won’t be a third season for Stargate Universe. The science fiction series has been cancelled after two seasons and 40 episodes.

The first half of season two finished airing on November 30th. The second 10 episodes are expected to air in the Spring of 2011. Unless the cable channel comes up with a replacement, this will mark the first time since 2002 that a Stargate series hasn’t aired on Syfy (previously known as the Sci-Fi Channel).

Stargate Universe follows a diverse exploration team who is unable to return to Earth after evacuating to a Ancient spaceship that’s headed to a distant part of the universe. The cast includes Robert Carlyle, Louis Ferreira, Brian J. Smith, Elyse Levesque, David Blue, Alaina Huffman, Jamil Walker Smith, and Ming-Na.

Here’s the official statement from Syfy…

Syfy will end its original action-adventure series Stargate Universe when the show returns with the final 10 episodes of its second season in the Spring of 2011. The Stargate franchise — consisting of Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe — has aired on Syfy since 2002.

Syfy has a slate of new sci-fi/fantasy scripted projects lined up for 2011 including the series premiere of Being Human on January 17, the recently green lit one-hour drama series Alphas and the much anticipated Battlestar Galactica prequel pilot movie, Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome. Warehouse 13, Eureka and Haven will also return with new seasons next year.

It’s unclear if the final 10 episodes of Stargate Universe will give closure to the series.

What do you think? Are you sorry that SGU is coming to an end? Do you think the ongoing storylines will be resolved?

Agreed, the second season was a lot better than the first one, though I’m fond of the first one as well. We were just starting to get into really exciting territory when it ended.

SGU was on the top of my list of all shows. The show was extremely intelligent, far beyond an average human being’s psyche. I’m highly disappointed that it was cancelled. I liked Stargate Atlantis quite a bit and I was shocked when it cancelled. However, after watching SGU I realized why Stargate Atlantis was cancelled. Now, I can’t think of any show that is going to be as good as or better than SGU.

Bottom line – Very disappointed. I may stop watching Syfy alltogether since there really aren’t any good shows left to watch.

It really is a shame that the syfy network decided to cancel SGU I’ve been a fan of stargate since the first movie came out when I was a kid. So when I found out there was a series that came out because of it I gave it my full attention. SG-1 was my favorite series even after Atlantis, but when SGU came out it quickly rose to my number 1 slot. I think what hurt the show the most was when syfy bumped the show to Tuesday nights instead of Fridays. Bad call syfy really bad call. I am disappointed… Read more »

SGU was the first american produced series that I have made an effort to follow since Bonanza ! It is an intelligent science fiction that comes closest to the kind of stuff I read as a 7 and 8 year old boy inEnglish comics like ‘Eagle’ and ‘Lion’. These comics were light years ahead of american publications and fostered a taste in me for good, exciting, science fiction full of feasible technology and plausible plots. In fact, many technological breakthroughs we have seen in our lifetime were predicted in those adventures. SGU had a similar hold on me 60 years… Read more »

Okay no offense to Syfy but Being Human is not an original series. It’s a BBC series that we’re calling original cause they’re using a different cast and maybe twisting the story line a little bit. Hey here’s a good Idea. Let’s stick with our own stuff Like Stargate Universe and just be happy. Screw the ratings. This is a fantastic show with great imagery and wonderful story telling. It plucks at the strings of emotion and wonder and just because the american public is too stupid to see it we decide to put some knock off on the air… Read more »

SGU was the first SG I enjoyed watching. I see a new show being pumped called Terra Nova. Perhaps coincidence?

OOOOH—- what a bad idea to give the boot to a great show. What airhead made this show history. I can tell they are out of touch with the many fans. I am also sure they will never read these comments!!! I can’t express enough dissssssapointment….
good luck…..

SGU is the best series that was. Should have gotten 10 seasons. People brought up a good point that recent little half seasons format sucks, the whole Nielsen thing sucks, corporate tv without any leadership except focus groups and crap like that will never produce anything of value, value anything of value, recognize anything of value, but always keep looking for another quick high. Morons shut down the best show ever. The character development/evolution, the multitasking, even forwards and back in time, the sense of humor (sorry but no one on BSG is cracking jokes about “I”m a pc”, about… Read more »

Enjoyed SGU even though the character Ely got on my nerves sometimes (laugh). I still liked watching the show — watching them go into stasis left me wondering what will they be like in 3 yrs., what eventually happened to Ely? I wonder what will happen to the woman who couldn’t see, will she regain her vision. They, SGU should return. (Note:) I don’t have cable so I rented DVD’s of SGU through Netflix and watched every week. Then got on the website to see when SGU would return, needless to say I am dissapointed that it is not returning.
