Syfy has confirmed that there won’t be a third season for Stargate Universe. The science fiction series has been cancelled after two seasons and 40 episodes.
The first half of season two finished airing on November 30th. The second 10 episodes are expected to air in the Spring of 2011. Unless the cable channel comes up with a replacement, this will mark the first time since 2002 that a Stargate series hasn’t aired on Syfy (previously known as the Sci-Fi Channel).
Stargate Universe follows a diverse exploration team who is unable to return to Earth after evacuating to a Ancient spaceship that’s headed to a distant part of the universe. The cast includes Robert Carlyle, Louis Ferreira, Brian J. Smith, Elyse Levesque, David Blue, Alaina Huffman, Jamil Walker Smith, and Ming-Na.
Here’s the official statement from Syfy…
Syfy will end its original action-adventure series Stargate Universe when the show returns with the final 10 episodes of its second season in the Spring of 2011. The Stargate franchise — consisting of Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe — has aired on Syfy since 2002.
Syfy has a slate of new sci-fi/fantasy scripted projects lined up for 2011 including the series premiere of Being Human on January 17, the recently green lit one-hour drama series Alphas and the much anticipated Battlestar Galactica prequel pilot movie, Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome. Warehouse 13, Eureka and Haven will also return with new seasons next year.
It’s unclear if the final 10 episodes of Stargate Universe will give closure to the series.
What do you think? Are you sorry that SGU is coming to an end? Do you think the ongoing storylines will be resolved?
They never should have abandoned SG1 or SGA…..they both were rock solid compared to this Universe atrocity….stop giving us new junk….bring back what worked….go back to the idea of at least coming out with annual SG1 and SGA movies…..that was novel
Very Disappointed and I know I am not the only one …..
I’m very disappointed that Stargate Universe has been cancelled. It was the highlight of all the shows that I watch. It is gritty, loaded with struggle, displays emotion and is full of surprises. When it moved to Tuesday and Friday stopped being SciFi Friday you could tell that SyFi was moving away from being about Sci Fi programming. I used to watch a number of shows on SciFi now I am down to Warehouse 13, Euerka and Haven. There are no good space shows anymore – Stargate Universe stood alone.
I’m a huge fan of the Stargate Series… but by far Universe has been my largest addiction. The rest of the Stargate series pale in comparison, in my opinion, to Universe. To hear it’s ending is yet again a failure of the networks to get their heads out their backsides and keep a good thing going. Awesome story, great characters, love the plot, and just really get sucked into this series! As was posted before me… getting so sick of seeing good shows go off the air without them having any chance of survival…. it’s whatever anymore… totally disappointed in… Read more »
Well there is no compare to SG1 or Atlantis, it is at least better than WWE on SciFI and some of their made for TV movies i.e Battle of Los Angeles that redefine the term pitiful. Some of SyFy choices amaze me and find myself moving away from SyFy because of that. Okay so they have Merlin but after wrestling!!! Even though this seriese (SGU) does not compare to the priors, I have seen a lot worse on that channel and am disappointed again with SyFy management and their sorry decisions.
I dont see why they are cancelling the series. I’ve always enjoyed the series and found it quite entertaining. Although there were some dull episodes most were entertaing and kept my curiosity about space travel and thought of ‘are qe alone’ still alive. Keep SGU going. I want to see where they take it.
Very sorry to see it go. I loved all the stargate series.
I liked Stargate as a whole, except it was difficult to endure universe. To much drama, and it’s little homo push ruined it. I did watch the whole thing out of respect for the movie, SG1, and Atlantis. I would like to see another Stargate (anything else), and believe it is OK to end Universe assuming that Destiny got taken out. This will give more time to figure out how to portray the origin of the “big bang”, and who or what created it, if they even need to at all. That is the one thing that we may never… Read more »
this is perfect let it go . that network has done everything to destroy their opportunity to emerge as a competitive & leading force in network Telivision in the lasty 16 months I think the same people who ran the 2 d animation industry invaded SyFy. I hope HSN buys it and NBC as they are losers , at least then I see what I buy is what it is……………DUUUHHHH LLOSSSSERRSS.
I am so sick of great shows ending! Most of us who really enjoy great TV. That’s about all we have after working a hard job. I get so caught up in the show, then bam well its over. Networks replace shows for low ratings right! Then they replace it with a show that barely gets ratings then it gets canceled. They should call the networks replacement TV! I am nervous or naive about shows now. I am still in shock after losing ABCs LOST. Now I am so afraid to get caught up in the new shows ABC “V”… Read more »
I really looked forward to every episode. It was intelligent.. The characters had depth. The stories were always interesting and not necessarily predictable. They need to change their minds and keep it on.
There are just too many characters that are unlikeable for the show to really make it. The righteous Camille, the whiney and useless Chloe, the snobbish and misguided Rush — all so tiresome. I liked Scott, but even Young was problematic. I liked him, but he kept making such bad decisions. If the viewers dislike too many of the characters, the show loses its draw. And what was with the season finale of Season One? Two long episodes and the writers STILL couldn’t figure out how to end the thing? It’s too bad, but it was n’t worth struggling through… Read more »
I will miss it! Now I know a lot of people didn’t like it, but is gave a twist on the original SG1 style, it was nice to get something different on a great series!
Good riddance. This series has put a black mark on the franchise. You know when they were first advertising SGU as a new series I thought it might maybe about the earth ship (which appeared in an SGA episode) that kept leaping from one alternate reality another, boy was I hoping. That would have been great (my opinion of course). After all doesn’t StarGate Universe make you think of those different realities they kept hinting to and showing us on SG-1 and SGA. Talk about teasers. Then this monstousity was given to us fans. Hell bring back SGA. It was… Read more »
I will complain because I don’t know of anything else to do. Can someone put up a link or something that shows the brass tacks about a show, THIS SHOW to start off with, why it was canceled. And if not that, how about a petition to get it on another network. Maybe PBS. At least they allow you to use your imagination.
