This drama is based on the real life events of CIA counter-intelligence officer Sandy Grimes (Jodie Whittaker). The story takes place in 1985 during the end of the Cold War.

Sandy and her partner Jeanne Vertefeuille (Harriet Walter) have vowed to find the mole that would turn out to be the most notorious traitor in US History, Aldrich Ames (Paul Rhys). Sandy is in a race against time to save the Soviet intelligence officers from being caught and killed.

Also a beautiful wife and mother, Sandy lives her own double life and has vowed to stop at nothing until she uncovers the truth.

Series Finale:
Episode #8 — Avenger
Despite the task force being fully convinced of Ames’ guilt, Sandy seeks more definitive proof to convince the Justice Department to proceed with their own investigation. As the hunt closes in on Ames, Sandy’s commitment to the job pushes her husband’s patience and commitment to the brink. After Ames is finally caught and brought to justice, he mulls over a major decision — to go down defiantly or to confess and protect his wife and child. (Courtesy ABC)

Really! Cancelled again! WHY? Do the networks think we all want mindless entertainment? Bring this back and finish what you started, please~

This is the best show on TV, or should I say was on TV. Hard to believe it has been cancelled. I’ll bet the government had something to do with that. I hope not, but it smells of that kind of stink. ABC needs to put the rest of the episodes back on.

We agree with others below..please let us complete the series. We’ve found it an informative, well-acted series. With so much mindless drivel in TV land, it is rare to have an intelligent show, and we hope you finish it!

We finally got to see the 4th Episode, and waited – being promised that the 5th would air tonite (Saturday) at 9….only to find out it was NOT – what is going on!!?? Now TV.Com says the next (5th) episode is scheduled for July 27th…..this has been a really bizarre version of a mini-series. Please, ABC – just show it!!

So sorry to see this excellent show cancelled. I sincerely hope the government had nothing to do with it. I remember when Aldrich Ames was in the news and this was in front of us. It is interesting to see some of the behind-the-scenes shenanigans. We all know the government isn’t perfect and makes mistakes. Let’s not hide things or we won’t know our history and then we can’t avoid making the same mistakes over again. Our country is still one of the best in the world but we can’t pretend we are perfect.

Please continue to show it. I’m tired of networks starting shows and canceling them. They should try different nights if the ratings are not where they want them.

Loved this show . . . ABC didn’t even give it a try. Please bring it back. So much better than all the reality TV shows.

Came across this show accidentally. And I was hooked. Convoluted story line. Interesting characters. Off your seat editing. The Cons? Show’s scheduling, looks like it was placed there as a filler. Advertizing, I missed it somewhere. ABC? Seldom watch this channel. I hope to catch the whole thing in another independent channel. Otherwise, it was a good show.

Lloyd: your comment: “@Mary, The network would have stopped the show before it even started if the government did not already know the content.”

Lloyd, do you remember when the writer, Peter Berg wrote the book, “Lone Survivor”, wasn’t the book reviewed by the government and questionable “facts” were included in the book and our government had a small hissy fit about it? Seems like sometimes things get past the government until it’s too late to do anything but ***** about it.

This show is great! I believe that what is hurting this show, in the way of ratings, may be more of the tv series: The Americans. Perhaps The Assets is hurting because it actually names Aldrich Ames as one its characters, and as such brings up a black mark on US Intelligence History. Overall, though, from the two episodes that I was able to view – it’s quite intriguing, (which what they were doing actually was – full of intrigue, I mean.) I for one would be a regular viewer of this show, if it were given a chance.

I doubt it Jim. It seems to me that something political is going on with the screening of this program. It’s based on a true story. Aldrich Ames was a real threat to the US and I honestly believe there’s something our government doesn’t want to get out so they probably requested the show not be shown at all.

Yes it should be re-started. However, it was aired close to the Edward Snowen betrayal. So yes the government does not want us to see how easy it was to leak classified information, or identify there is a problem inside our clandestine services.
@Mary, The network would have stopped the show before it even started if the government did not already know the content.
